Well I will toss you my plan with lancer as I want it as my main. I am lvling pug and archer to 25 first for their + acc abilitys so I can then focus on str stats once on lancer ^^

Dex has a considerably smaller impact on your accuracy than the accuracy stat on weapons. If you get to the point where acc is a big problem it means you need to upgrade to a better weapon.
In addition you can get some rings like these:
http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/item.html?ffxivitem=9050002
That will help your acc much more than DEX.

If you are still using the Lvl 1 lance, it maybe time to try and buy a new higher level one.

The stats on the weapons give more accuracy.

Although I don't know how easy/hard they are to get yet.

Do we have a mathematician yet who's figured out how much attack STR adds, how much acc DEX adds, stuff like that?

I would imagine (and this is purely a guess, nothing more) that since you are attacking about twice as fast as you would be in FFXI, that you'll probably miss about twice as much as well. I know this game is not the same game as that game, but i'm just trying to give some sort of comparison to show that at lower levels, you can expect to miss plenty, especially considering that you can just spam attacks

That would probably be difficult seeing as you cannot check mobs to see if they have low/high evasion or low/high def.
I hope someone eventually figures it out, but as of right now I have no idea how you would go about testing that.

The weapons relation to your target has a large impact as well. Trying to hit lvl 10 mobs with a lvl 1 reduces the chance of a hit. The weapons Optimal level in relation to yours also effects it. You can also get some relatively cheap +acc accessories (copper rings/earrings ect).

At level 10 Lancer your stats cap at 50. Don't go past 50 in one stat(At level 10). Hope that helps you out.

Edit: Also those rings do help. I leveled Minor to 10 and got enough copper ore to make 30 rings. Problem is running out of shards lol

thanks everyone!

yep - just dinged lvl 10, lvl 1 weapon and no additional ACC items equipped. i'll have to look into copper rings etc... until i can work out the ingredients and crafting skills i need.

also looking into getting into a LS as i'm looking to be a crystal supplier - hoping to get into a LS with crafters...

i've already set up my bazaar stall in Gridania CrystalsForSale.

You can buy the rings for about 6k from a NPC in Ul'dah. Much cheaper to mine and goldsmith yourself though. What server are you on?
Also when you reach level 11 your stats cap increases. I haven't tested it yet. I just know at level 10 if you go past 50 in one stat then the rest are redundant.

I did not know about the weapon level vs mob. In open beta and now I have had major accuracy issues with all melee classes. In open I pumped dex as my highest stat and also had +acc rings which helped a lot. Then when i got the bronze dagger for my glad, I ruled ^^

So with this new information, am i hurtiong myself with such high dex? I don't have a weapon higher then starter yet but I will today. I guess no more pumping dex for some time ><

It's not a weapon lvl vs mob level thing, it's just the fact that the Harpoon has +21 Accuracy over the L1 starter Spear. Even copper rings only give +2 accuracy, so +21 is a huge upgrade.

Also, don't forget to keep your weapon repaired. You start whiffing a lot when your weapon durability is in the red, though I'm sure it happens even when durability is yellow. In OB, I noticed all of a sudden I started missing a lot on mobs that I had no problems with just a couple hours earlier. Checked my durability, and yep, it was 0. Repaired the weapon, and did lots better ^.^

Is there also a distance that you have to be from the mob? I remember in the party battle example pictures SE had, lancers weren't too close to the mob, but their lance's length. At least to me, it seemed I was hitting better and doing more criticals when I was a little farther away.

No one has mentioned this yet, but attacking from the side or rear will vastly improve your chance to hit. You can use Heavy Thrust for this since it prevents the mob from moving until you get behind it and hit it with a WA.

yeah! I love running around the mob - finding weak spots! and unlike ffxi I feel as if I'm actually in a fight! so I'm going to hook up with a bunch of rings... see if I can get the crafting skill to make a new weapon with better ACC or look for a LS who needs someone like me to get them a constant supply of shards!! :)

thanks for all the input!

I'm also lancer and I agree its frustrating sometimes how often I miss; some fights go well but during one fight it went like this...

miss
miss
miss
miss
hit
evade
miss
hit
ferocity
trammel...miss
miss
evade
evade
miss

dead.
