Is anyone else getting this on patching today's update?

Not looking forward to potentially having to reinstall...

Not an answer, but linking two threads about the same problem so if the solution is posted in the other thread people can see it. http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/19960-error-20524-with-patch-201009230000/

You will most likely have to change the numbers in the game.ver and boot.ver. Did that with the last patch and it worked fine.

Worked for me too. ;D Thanks

I feel sorry for non-technically oriented players grappling with this...

No problem, I am a software engineer so I am used to silly little hacks like this :D. Little note, today's patch you may need to do the same thing. I was getting a version error. The updater went through fine but it said it couldn't validate the version. So I changed both versions to 9.23 and it worked again...

Hope SE figures this stuff out soon.

BTW, these files are in your FFVXI folder where the executables are.

I got this error on the update. I went in to the FFXIV file folder and noticed a new file 'game.ver.updating' which was created when the update started, but had no info. Deleted it and the update redownloaded and installed with no problem.

PLEASE HELP!

Error 20524

I can move these files, "boot" and "game" to the desktop to edit them. But I cannot get any combination of dates to work.

If I type in 2010.09.23.0000 into the "game" file then I can get into the game with no text, which is interesting, and the city is missing walls and everyone is holding their weapons in one hand by their side. It is severely odd.

I have reinstalled two times from scratch, spent 8+ hours and called SE 4 times and I AM LOSING IT!

PLEASE HELP!

I'm not very good at computers, all i know is that i went into the downloaded.game.patch and changed it, but my downloaded.boot.patch had nothing in it, so i would like to know what needs to be put there, not very computer smart..

I had this problem with today's patch and changing the date in the boot.ver and game.ver worked but there was one small difference. Since I don't know much about this stuff, I assumed that changing it to the date the patch was released would always be correct. I changed it to 2011.05.23.0000 and that didn't work. After looking for other solutions, I looked at the patch file itself and noticed it was 05.19 rather than 05.23. So, if this solution doesn't work for you at first, double check the date on the patch file^^
