ok, during beta i had windows xp, i upped my pc to windows 7 64bit so i could up my mother board to max ram of 8gb. xp durinf beta let me run in full screen with 4gb ram and it ran decent. i was getting distortion with 7 and couldnt figure out why, adjusted screen and graphics card and FFxiv resoulutions all day trying to figure out the problem. i was about to just play it with horrible jaggies and hard to read text when i tried running in windowed mode, BADA BING, nice and clean and running smoothly. i have no idea why i cant run full screen but in windowed it looks the way i desire it to in windowed. does anyone know if its a 64-bit thing or what? or a setting some where in 7 i dont know about? im a newb to 7 so if anyone can help me get my game running full screen(clearly) please let me know.

thanks

Sounds like you didn't read the actual post, although I'll agree it was a struggle.

IIRC you also run on a i7-980x with a HD 5970? I'm less sure of the video card. Needless to say I don't take your word on performance issues since there's no way you should be having issues anyway.

To OP, can you take screenshots of fullscreen and windowed gameplay to try and show the difference between the two?

Sounds like it could be driver issues! Update your drivers and try again. Also, what resolution were you trying to play in full screen? Try a low setting (like 1280x720) even if it doesn't give the right aspect, just to see if a lower resolution works right. When I was working on Sims 3 we had a similar problems that ended up being a driver issue...with that said updating drivers might not work and you'll have to wait till new drivers come out (if this is indeed the problem). But as someone else said, take a picture of the problem and show us.

Wouldn't running a lower resolution fullscreen by nature cause more jaggies?

Which makes me think

OP, what resolution did you run at fullscreen, and what resolution did you run at windowed? ...did you just run it fullscreen at a non-native resolution? Based on how poorly scrapped together that post was I wouldn't put it past you to just be running fullscreen at a low resolution resulting in a poor quality picture...

Dude be quiet, no need to say anything if you got nothing to say. He answered his question - I'm also running window 7 64 bit full screen with no jaggies and no problems whatsoever and I'm running it on 4 cores 2.8 GHz and a 5770 only.

Phenom II X4 925 with a 5770 - Runs at 1920x1080 in W7 x64, not jagged at all.
Pentium 4 HT with a 5770 - Runs at 1280x1024 in W7 x64, laggy, but not jagged at all.

So it's not a problem with Windows 7.

Now i have a 32" Sony Bravia, it says it does 1360x768. So i set my monitor up to this resolution, verfeied my graphics card was running the same. Then i configured FFXIV to that resoulution. ran it in full screen like i did in beta ( but during beta i was running XP SP3). I can upscale the bravia to Full HD 1080. i can actully upscale all settings in windowed mode and get a clear crisp image, but it runns kinda laggy. im running in windowed mode set at Exactly 720p down the line. looks great runs great. but once i try to runn full it becomes grainy almost like PS2 version of FF11 was to the PC version. i dont have a imaging software to take a screen shot on the pc yet since it is a new build exsclusively for this game. definately going to get a I7 sooon though.

bsphil please bear with my lack of thinking while putting that post together, its hard for me to explain in techie terms, so your posts here seemed more intrusive in nature than help worthy, i have a BA in graphic design so yes i understand resoultions and a bit about computers. so your complaining about my OP's structure reflecting my knowledge? do your self a favor and go troll else where if you aont going to help.

This is some kind of LCD I take it?
It has fixed refresh rate for all different resolutions?

In game you can use scroll lock + print screen to take a screenshot without the ui.
Or you can just use print screen, exit then paste it into paint.
From desktop you can use the printscreen or win 7 has a snipping tool to capture pictures.

...double eew.

Yeah, you're using a low end processor and a low end GPU. That's why your video leaves something to be desired.

There's a difference between knowing the correct vocabulary and knowing how to construct a proper sentence.

Your GPU is literally the minimum requirement. The game isn't going to look any better until you can upgrade that with a card powerful enough to give you a higher quality picture with the performance to make the game playable. The i3 isn't great but it's not bad either. Would upgrade the GPU before the CPU.

I'm not calling you a liar, but I have a very hard time believing that running windowed at 1280x720 looks great but running fullscreen at 1360x768 looks like the ps2 version of ffxi. Still would like to see screenshots.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and I am getting major screen tear in full screen. When I forced vertical sync through my Nvidia card, my screen stuttered every few seconds or during quick turns. After I read this, I switched to Windowed mode and ... no problems at all. Silky smooth gameplay. Go figure.

Workaround: Use Windower and enable pseudo-fullscreen (borderless window). Best of both worlds, and you can alt+tab!
