I really miss having an AHFollow

#152STFUAllaElitists, Posted: Nov 17 2010 at 1:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not(ish) true. If you can't trade money or gear, there is no way to get anything from anyone. No gil buying. Useless for them to make in-game money.

I find the problems caused by RMT grossly over exaggerated.

Did I see gil sellers in XI?

Yes, plenty of 'em but they didn't harm my enjoyment of the game in a significant way.

What DOES however harm my gameplay experience in XIV in a great way is the lack of an AH.

And still I see gil sellers in-game.

I'm not tempted to buy gil as I'm swimming in it. Just nothing to use it for.

I miss also an AH :( Its quick to find items u need, it's fun and social. Auction houses are also a great meeting place to set up groups. and meeting friends that u have met in game.

RMT's u will never get rid of, when I seen an RMT boting ect I reported then right away. Thats all we can do really
is just keep reporting them pesky RMT'S. Pleas SE put in an AH :)))))

I do miss the AH, for a number of different reasons. But, I can live without one, not the end of the world for me. I'll be fine with the market wards, once they get it running more smoothly. I haven't really bought anything from there in a while. I know they're supposed to be working out some of these issues on the upcoming updates.

We will have RMT's regardless of what SE does, you can pretty much say that's a fact. Granted, I do see their reasoning for implementing the market wards. I feel that it can possibly delay the RMT problem for a time. The thing is, there are always going to be RMT's. They are just going to adapt to the changes in FFXIV. Each side is constantly evolving and adapting. Like with file sharing, there have been a number of changes. The companies against file sharing and piracy are now finding ways to more easily track down people that use torrents to illegally obtain software, movies, and the such. At some point file sharing will evolve and start the whole cycle all over again.

I'm not saying that SE or any other company making mmo's should stop worrying about RMT's. RMT's can ruin games for people if they get too much free run of a game. On the other hand, game companies can go overboard on stopping RMT'S to the extent that it actually ruins the game play of all the legit game players. The trick is finding a good balance of the two.

something made me felt that its not SE not wanting to have a AH but its because they CAN'T.

maybe they are missing someone to code and implement the system for them at the moment and with this rushed release, they have to make some sort of excuse like 'oh, its just so to increase player interaction lulz'...

seriously, do they honestly think the current market ward/town shout spamming system is good in the long run? do you think its really good?
#158Mince, Posted: Nov 18 2010 at 4:04 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So are you saying it is a fact that people who are below rank 20 and haven't needed to repair 'a component from another crafter that requires r30+' have no right to comment on the retainer or repair systems? I'm sorry, but that is opinion, not fact.

I doubt it has anything to do with "CAN'T". Coding an AH couldn't possibly be any more difficult than everything else they created. Using a pre-existing concept would be much easier than creating one from scratch. I would bet that they used the retainer system to try to cut down on people overcrowding main areas. I mean, look how bad the leve-guy/girls get when new leves pop. Imagine that on a grander scale. People would be camping the AH. I have already had to wait 3-5 minutes for my leve NPCs to pop. It would be much worse for AH lag.

I do give a lot of flexibility for game design flaws because there was so much put into this game's design/functionality. A lot of money was invested to create a game that might not have gotten released at all. It all goes for the same argument "why are all of the new games so **** short when old games took a long time to beat". The truth is, the more graphics we add, the more complex the coding is, the longer it takes to develop, the less content you have (except for the occasional game that breaks the mold). On another side of that argument, the more code they add, the more flaws they (will) have. From a release/repair standpoint, if they added too much, they might end up breaking the game (or get buried fixing critical errors).

I don't know...

I am purely speculating of course. My first MMO was XI and my second was XIV so I admit to a lack of experience with the topic. At the same time, I "did see" a lot of issues with RMT.

Are they game breaking? NO. Could they be? POSSIBLY. Do I care really? NO.

My point is, RMT "can" mess the game up because, when you have very active RMT on a server, they mess with prices to deter people from monopolizing on crafts. The problem with this is, since these guys have a dedicated mission to make in-game money, they use tactics to control the value of items they sell. They make it so it is hard (not worth it) for people to level their crafts because there is too much of a loss to do it. They make it so low level crafts bottleneck. I mean, actual players do it too but they do it because they are stupid. I have seen RMT intentionally destroy a market. I have seen it a lot.

I guess a good counter argument is, I have also seen RMT add to the game. In the same way they mess up pricing to achieve total domination, I have seen RMT provide stability to a market. I have seen them make HQ gear prices realistic (by lowering the cost across the server).

I think the lack of an AH would be fine (even better) if they game was designed to support the lack of one. If everyone was required to kill mobs all over the world, at their respective level, to obtain the items needed to craft their gear, and that was the only way they could get new gear (outside of NM), then I think we would be better off without an AH. As it currently stands though, when you are level 15 and you need a lvl 16 weapon that requires lvl 30 BS and a lvl 45 GS item to craft it... as much as I hate to say it... you need an AH.

I am not saying that WE don't need one...
I am purely saying that MMO's would be better without one (if designed properly!)!

Buying gil happens because it requires so many crystals/shards to craft items. I made 1 mill in two days off of wind crystals (I wasn't even lvl 15 at the time).

I do give SE credit though... leve money drops made the game a lot better!!!! I think they help combat the RMT. I have bought gear off of someone just to see what the color looked like on my char :)

I think, until they are able to address the lag issue on NPCs, I think an AH would be retarded. I think YG and FFXIVPRO supplement the lack of an AH. The problem is finding the people that are selling the item (considering it takes me 5 minutes to spawn a group of retainers every time I move in the room). It really sucks when you look for someone for 45 minutes and you never find them.

i think Auction houses are over rated.
People donlt want to see thr bigger pixcture or scope of things.
Like just because the game got an AH doesn't mean you will find everything you need/ want. I have in several mmo with AH having to soend weeks looking for 1 weapon or 1 peice of armor I needed, or that spell I had to have. Ah are not as perfect as ppl assume.

And the retainer system didn't replace the AH any ffxi player knows SE got the idea from a player treand/ complaint. The laggy rolen-mart and laggy towns from afk shop sells.

What would have been better, is ppl didn't shun the retainer system so fast. Work with it and get it organized with your Linkshells.
trends start easy in mmorogs. Just tyhe willingness of doing so is the issue.

I couldn't agree more with this thread. My main reason for wanting an AH isn't just for the increased speed of the process of getting what you need, but mainly for pricing. An AH helps to keep pricing competitive, and also gives other players an understanding of what item costs are going for at that time.
EX. - "So I made an extra Ripped Haubergeon while I was crafting and want to sell it. How much should I sell it for?"...

I agree. Currently throwing away stuff is a quilt trip every time as I don't know if I'm throwing away trash or massive amounts of gil. Now every item has the same value to me when it's in my inventory. Putting prices to retainer items is like playing lame very time consuming lottery.

honestly i hate having an AH that sets the prices.
I much rather go to an npc check out how much stuff is if i sold it to them then make a fair worth of time and effort used to make.
like level 7 feet gear being worth 300K-2mil. That is much to steep.
Nothing in the world ever has a set value. One item in one store can be $4 while in another store its $1.50.
Set up your own worth. And vs droping sell it to an npc. Or shout to ask the "about" worth. All this was done in ffxi. Even with an AH. But also Ah did controll alot of the pricing. Not a really smart idea. Greed always kicks in and some d-bag over prices goods. where unlike an auction house if i guy is selling over priced, just jump to the next.
The game is still new and no one should really be worried about how much gil they are getting. here is much stuff you NEED to buy or use it for.

Irishclass777,

you sound really young and idealistic in your comments in this and the thread about crafters services.

Maybe you haven't learned how economy works yet. But I assure you whatever the system the same rules of quantity and demand will dominate over anything and everything.

I'm sure you genuinely believe in your community ideals and there's nothing wrong with that. There just are these basic ways all societies always work.

I was looking for Buffalo Leather Strap last night for 2hrs in Limsa market wards, but couldn't find any, then i said "fuxk it!" and log off.

This wouldn't happen if there is an AH, or at least a partial AH which sells crafting materials only and not equip able gears.. Market wards doesn't work for me, and the ending result is usually me logging off the game with frustrations.

I say SE keep the wards, BUT, say you put items in the battlecraft, you should only be able to put items that are IN that section. As in: No crystals or useless **** in the battlecraft section. Only restricts weapons to battlecraft. Armor shouldn't be set out as: Clotheirs, Hatters, Glovers, Etc. It should just be.....armor. lol.

*Search Function: Yeah its pretty much an AH, but, I think SE should add a search function to the wards. Say, you look up an item, if that item is there it tells you who is selling it and what ward it is in.

*Retainers are useless?: Yea I know, I can get an npc to sell my ****! wait....isn't that what the AH was?? Why not just put NPC's at the stands in the wards who sell different items in that row, like have a war axe person in the stall next to the blade person. Idk retainers seem usless to me.

*No more clunky selling: I say, along with the post above. There should just be an option in the wards to, yes, sell your stuff obviously, but you can open the menu, and it has an extra option called Market Wards or somthing like that, and you post an item for a price and it gets sent to whatever category it should be in.

*Overall: Keep the Wards, I like, it makes FFXIV different. Don't put in an AH and be like the rest of the MMO's...isn't that what FFXIV is about? Standing out. So everyone take some time to read my review and try to understand what I'm saying. SE can make a great different game here if they keep to it. So come on SE, Make finish up a game to make me say **** this is fun as **** :D (not that I don't do that already..but you know.)

Happy Trails folks =D

When it comes to what items are worth, that will change constantly. It'll level out for a bit, then change when SE nerfs a job, or changes dmg values, or something like that. Anyone who played XI for a few years saw the switch in worth between Hagun, Shinsoku and Onimaru. Haguns first released selling at like 75k and Onimaru was leet stuff for SAM. Then they broke SAM and suddenly Hagun got as high as 6mil and Onimaru went to like 80k. People will eventually get on the same page, AH or no AH.

The splitting of wards was somewhat helpful... but it still doesn't solve the problem. Most people still cram into the first ward. Once I get back to the legfitters and cobblers (I doubt many players know what a 'cobbler' is (it's not a pie, fatty)) wards, I'm lucky to see 4 or 5 people, tops. Half the time they're empty or have 1-2 people there.

After looking in the CORRECT place for an item and not finding it, I have to play "Which wrong ward can I find it in?" and kiss 1-3 hours of my life goodbye.

The wards are definitely infuriating, I was looking for a simple THM weapon, after sifting through all retainers not a single one in sight.... it happens, I understand... but it's what you DO find on those retainers that ****** me off to no end.

Why are you opening every bazaar when the new feature implemented in the last patch has retainers showing what they're selling if it is armor or a weapon?

After reading through this entire thread, I started thinking of the XI auction. How I used it, how much I used it... I guess I do miss it. I mean I was a Beastmaster and a Thief. I was always emptying my inventory at the AH and picking up gil in my mog house. I really miss my mog house.

This is a new game I've committed to however, and it's not like FFXI. Therefore, I must get used to this new system we're seeing in FFXIV, and adapt as it surely will change from here on out. Searching retainers? Would have been nice for those browsing the "Rolanberry Ward" of Vana'diel bazaars. It will be much more helpful now, in the Eorzea economy.

Yes, I know SquareEnix never said they were adding an Auction House. Never said they wouldn't either but I can see something else eventually developed in addition to the market wards. Perhaps an auction system incorporated into the "Companies" we'll see in the future-- That could be quite interesting. We shall see...

Also, this made me chuckle:

I have to say, this isn't completely the fault of the player, but they do have a large part in it.

SE's issue: Need more than 1 retainer.

Player's issue: They don't follow the system, so therefore the system doesn't work. I have to say, though, I have had NO PROBLEM selling my chest pieces in the Clothier's section. Enough people actually shop the right ward that if you price it fairly, it isn't a problem to sell it.

Edit: My brother had what I thought was a great idea. Instead of doing a search and putting an icon on the actual retaiers with that item, instead, let's start by just having an icon next to the retainers that had THE CORRECT ITEM FOR SALE FOR THAT WARD. This would ***** people who don't use the system. People who come to the clothier's ward to buy a chest would just pass them by.

Again, need more than 1 retainer though. Seems everything hinges on that. Though it isn't bad just moving your retainer around as the items sell. Chest sells with no more chest pieces for sale, but have legs? Move him to the Leggings Ward.

Edit: hah, nothing like having double words in your CAPS statements =D

YES I WANT.

This would totally fix the Market Wards without making them useless.

However, people would probably stick one item from that ward at a huge price so it couldnt be bought and they'd continue to keep the icon.

Did they not say that they were planning on adding a search function to retainers in either the November patch(which didn't happen) or the December patch? Have I misread that?

All I know is that I can't play a game where it takes me over an hour to find what I'm looking for with the added possibility that I might not even find it.

I care not if it's centralized. I care not if the search function does not reveal prices. I just want to find what I'm looking for and get to actually playing the game.

I said it before and I'll say it yet again...

I won't even step into the wards to buy something unless I find it listed on the YG.com bazaar listings. If it's not there - I'm not wasting my time. I know there are many others just like me as well as many others who won't go in there at all.

Sites like YG.com and FFXIVpro.com are already trying to emulate the AH in a static, manual fashion. It's just plain silly that SE thinks that the AH will somehow "break" or "ruin" this game. I mean is the lack of an AH really deterring RMT at all? Or is it doing more to deter actual players ?

This is the thing:

How many here will stop playing if they put an AH in?

How many have stopped playing or will stop playing because they are frustrated with the current set up (which I think even with a search function won't help that much)? (I personally know of 2 in RL)

And keep in mind, the later tend to be people who don't come on to forums to *****. They try to find something in the ward for an hour, get annoyed, log off and never come back.

Just add the **** AH.

I am with all the people for the implementation of an AH. I have a full-time job so only a very few limited amount of play-time per day (luckily, I can however play every day). The last times I went to the wards was for... the rank missions otherwise I am staying as far away as possible of this ****. As most of the people said, spending more than 1 hour to look for 1 items is dull. Now when I rank, if I need to search for: new weapon, new armor etc... It gets far too much to handle without being depressed.

Seeing the items listed in an AH, as someone already pointed it out, gives something to look forward to for next rank or even things to dream about for months and months. Now It is about going in the wards once every 10ranks in the HOPE of finding new equip. Rank20 people still wearing weathered stuff with no durability (Why the **** would i go repair every 2hours of killing mobs for an insane price). Even the idea of just zoning in there is like going to the dentist to have a teeth pulled out and this should not be the case.

My point is: Keep the retainers for the role of bazaaring/mog housing but we need a centralized, fast and efficient way of getting items (of any kind). Wouldn't it be nice for crafters to know that they can start gathering materials for their craft because they are all available, rather than gathering some of them and finally realizing that one mat cannot be found because it is not sold?
Wouldn't it be better for the people fighting to start a new job with appropriate gears rather than just get the rank1 weathered thing and just keep the rank30 equip because why would you spend one hour trying to get appropriate equip for your job and it does not affect the leveling that much anyways?

Yes i spent about 10 accumulative hours searching for gear then i gave up and i have not played much yet, so i am really in favor of some type of search system i don't care what SE calls it as long as i dont have to sift through all the retainers at the markets.

DING DING DING!! You just won the statement of the year lol. I totally agree... I seem to have plenty of gil, and gil is NOT HARD AT ALL TO OBTAIN, but the problem is, it IS hard to find the stuff I need searching all over the place for items wanted lol.

AH PLEASE!

AH NOW ,

Thank You

If you think an AH will ruin this game go play solitaire and try not to ruin it for yourself.

At first I really thought like the Wards were a good idea, and adding a search function would alleviate the need for an AH. With population shrinking though and the Wards crashing what seems like every day it is really ridiculous how hard it is to find simple stuff now.

It's just very tedious these days finding crafters, having to meet up b/c there is no mail system, and then dealing with a trade window that has less room then a smart car after it's been hit by a semi. And all this because you can't find some simple mats or level 20 item in the wards, most likely because they crashed 2 hours prior or because people don't even bother anymore knowing what a joke browsing a person one by one is.

If they do finally add a search function in the Dec. patch, their's no denying it will help, but I don't think it can alleviate the benefit of an AH at this stage of the game. RMT mainly farm shards anyways, make it so you can't sell shards on the AH, I don't care.

But I shouldn't spend 1 hour looking for iron ore, or iron spikes, or a level 20 weapon, or whatever. It's just ridiculous that it's so hard to find a 1000 gil item in this game because SE wanted to try so hard to stop RMT and waste the other 99% of the population's time in the process.

at this point, square just needs to accept people don't like the wards and although might have been a good idea in theory, just doesn't work and isn't convenient. even with a search function.

put an AH where the wards were, and use retainers for what people used extra chars for in FFXI

Auction House, yes please or you can attempt to BLOW OUR FREAKIN' MINDS with your December wards changes. Good luck SE, good luck.

...Or you could just give us the auction houses we want.

Let's just put FFXIV grahics engine to FFXI and we can all be happy and sing lullabies to teh babies!

Seriously, it's a new game with new features that _tries_ to differ from FFXI and of all the generic mmos out there. Give them a chance ;J

I played multiple FFXI accounts, and the account/accounts that weren't camping ToD were bazaaring stuff. I crafted for money, and the AH couldn't hold everything I wanted to sell before logging out; work schedule meant I was on at non-peak times, and my product wasn't moving until after I logged out, meaning I couldn't post more stuff. We could have AH and wards, and the people who enjoy the RP aspect of no AH is awesome can just go on being WARD-ONRY, and the rest of us who got stuff to do can use the AH.

No AH WILL be make or break for whether I pay for this game, regardless of whatever else they fix or add. I don't have time to login and browse retainers for two hours only to not find what I need and then logout out of frustration.

You’d really think that by this stage, they would have added in the auction house already. I’m sure on a daily basis, SE is getting hundreds of screaming emails/complaints about the lack of auction house. I have also been one of those angry emails to SE.

From what I have seen and noticed during my weary travels through the game – two things need to be added in, hands down without complaints – An auction house and a delivery system.

I am a gatherer – I run around as a botanist, logging and harvesting every little sparkle I can find. I provide my link-shell with these items since selling on my retainer doesn’t seem to be much of an option any more. Without the ability to Auction off these items, my retainer sits there alone in the dark, hoping one person will run up and buy my logs. I am situated in the Woodworking wards, it’s not like I’m trying to sell food in the footwear ward or something ridiculous like that. I am where I should be. And at the same time, the fellow link shell people who crave the items I harvest, it’s a nightmare trying to track them down just to trade three or four stacks of logs, etc. Now I have to waste my slowly earned Anima in order to travel to someone who has NO anima, trade them and teleport back out to where I was running around.
I know SE wants to put a stop to gil-sellers/RMT – but to be honest, they’re always going to be there no matter what SE does in order to prevent it. “Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot” is the best way to describe the RMT issue – they’re the cockroaches of the gaming world and they will never go away. The security token will help limit the amount of accounts that will get hacked and the ease of gaining gil in the game for the regular casual player will also reduce the urge for players to even think of going to an RMT site to purchase gil.

Why we need an auction house: 1.) because people aren’t going to toss in their bazaar simple items like apples or pepper – two items I need in order to level my cooking. They NPC those items in order to gain the little bit of gil, leaving space in their bazaar or retainer for higher ticket-price items or endless amounts of shards. 2.) The annoyance of not being able to get the items you need in a timely manner. I am a casual player, like a lot of others I know in-game already. We do not have the hours to spend looking through zombie after zombie to obtain a simple item – whether its armor or synthing mats. Even with a ‘search’ function added in, you’re still going to have to deal with people selling items in the wrong wards, the time for the zombies to load up on your screen and the fact that I am still not going to get myself black pepper because the limited space in the retainer will still be full of items worth a lot more gil than the pepper.

Why we need a delivery system: 1.) Instead of taking time out of my limited hours on the game to run around and locate ten people I am supplying with materials from logging/harvesting, I’d like to just type in a name, add a few items and get on with my evening. I’d like to limit the amount of Anima I spend per day, so I can use it for teleporting from city to city for Leve-quest needs, not in-person delivery needs. 2.) The delivery box also added in the little bit of extra holding space in FFXI – I remember having all 8 slots filled a few times over again, cycling through until I found what I wanted, keeping the rest in there until it was needed. Sure, the boost from 160 to 200 spaces was a nice addition in the November patch, but you can NEVER have too much storage space in a game like this – especially with the +1-3 items that take up more room than needed.

You can petition all you want, but from what I've seen you're not going to get an AH.

...that is unless 3 months after the PS3 release, SE has had to merge the servers due to population loss. SE has stated that an AH is their backup plan. As far as I'm concerned FFXIV is barely out of the starting gate, I'd bet SE's not talking about going with their backup strategies yet. ****, they haven't even fully implemented what they have said was their strategy.

This game is horribly lacking with no ah, no mail, no access to at least the rented chocobos.
As it stands they have limited sales/purchasing to a tedious, almost painful process (retainer wards). Waiting much longer for any of the things i mentioned is not going to keep ppl interested much longer, nor happy. Imo its a terrible move to keep these out of game, especially with so many other issues atm. Toss us a bone SE!

I know its a new game, granted, and i certainly do not expect end game content, nor epic quality quests/missions/besieges/campaign style things. I dont expect 18 man nm fights that last 3 hours.

But i do expect a smooth fast ability to fight(which i know they are working on),and to buy/sell in an organized and quick manner, the ability to mail to friends and my alt characters and yes...rented chocobos would be a welcomed addition

Retainer sales only, are at best a secondary option, or should be. If they add a search they might as well go the 1 step further and simply activate the ah building and allow players to find what they need or want to sell in a timely non migraine inducing manner. Personally its getting silly to have to spend hours searching for goods needed.

I use an online site that is trying to organize who is selling what/where but it shouldnt be up to the customer to even have to resort to this. It should be standard in any game.

add the ah
add mail
add rented chocobos. Oo good grief SE.

Also the free month is excellent and ty SE for that, but its time to allow more retainers please, even if paid for, its time.

Can i also add that we add sending? XD I had a starter char as a Lalafell, nothing wrong with it, but i Love how armor looks in this game. It was cool in 11 and all, but on the Taru model in 11 you missed a lot of detail. I chose taru because of the Mp and overall Mageness, but in 14 there is no race/job destinction, at least not after a fwe levels to balance stats out.

So i made a new char as a Hume. I am enjoying it much more, just it was a Royal Pain having to get someone to stand there and trade over 80 items, 16 sets of crystals and gold all just to transfer it to one character. And i still have a few things on the lalafell that i would like to get, but none of my friends play, so its hard to get help with switching items around.

I also would Greatly appreciate the Auction house. As it is right now, in order to Make rank 14 weapons, some of them require lv 30 crafts. But to get the items you need to craft, you need to have higher leveled jobs. To make a level 11 piece of armor, i need to be rank 21+ weaving.

Sure you can be self sufficient in this game, but the whole point of a MMO is the community. The bazaar system is not bad, but there is no search function, you are just blindly looking for items, or the home of finding an item. If i want a new Axe, i have to sift through about 100 retainers in the ward, only to be out an hour and still have no axe.

If they don't want to put a Auction House system, at Least Tweak the current system, so we could search the ward for the discount items there. EX. Ironmongers ward (tho nearly empty) discounts ores, raw and refined metals, so when you enter, you could do a search for say Copper Ores, and it would list the retainers holding any. Not the prices, as that would be more like an auction house. But just like the items, so you could seek out that retainer and not waste time looking through all the retainers for 1 item and coming up empty handed.
