All the Weaponskills Look the same.Follow

I'm currently a level 11 marauder. The thing that's really bugging me is that almost all the weapon skills look exactly the same. Its like SE got lazy and just copy and pasted the animation for all of them. I have Trunksplitter, Brandish, and Skull Sunder, and honestly they all have the same exact animation. My character swings his axe from bottom to top, I literally can't tell the difference. I'm really hoping the higher level ones have different animations, but I'm seriously starting to doubt the amount of effort SE put into this game especially when all the zones are just copy and pasted all over the place.

The physical motion for Marauder attacks are the same (either an upward arc or an overhead chop), but the actual special effects are slightly different for each one. I do wish they were a little more flashy and noticeable like in FFXI, but at least there are subtle differences if you look hard enough.

Seismic Shock has a pretty nice custom animation. I'm expecting many WS will have as we get older and higher leveled.

The effect when your character uses a WS isn't very impressive either. I don't mean the WS effects themselves, but the effect when your character uses one. It looks pretty cheesy to be honest.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

I love it, this guy gets defaulted for pointing out what most of the players are furiously trying to keep from admitting to themselves.

Every honest (and needed) critique has some precooked response, often going back to "Don't like it? Don't play it!" as if that actually means or accomplishes something. If you think loving a game necessarily entails believing it lacks flaws, you're pathetically naive, and yes, FFXIV has plenty of them. An endless supply, as far as I can tell.

Take that terrain copypasta everyone likes to LOL away by saying that other games have it. It's such an issue in FFXIV more than other games because it's done heavy-handedly, because it's alarmingly obvious. There was no excuse for this level of amateur ten years ago.

And the weapon skills - yeah, I'm sure they threw some better looking ones in there later on. But to have tiers where every single WS is nigh identical. . .amateur. Just amateur. Why are they taking backward steps in design and game play? I'm very concerned, and I don't really care who rates me down for admitting it.

I remember fast blade/burning blade/redlotus blade all looked the same in FFXI. Whats more frustrating I guess is that there are more weapon skills in this game, but i expect the same % will have roughly the same animations.

I haven't noticed it on Lancer really. I got that Crescent Moon skill (or whatever it's called) and it looks different than Skewer. It actually makes a crescent shaped arc in the air when I use it. God knows I got sick of looking at the same few animations being used repeatedly in FFXI.

PS: the 'word' "copypasta" should never be used by anybody expecting to be taken seriously. It's a pathetic meme attempt, regardless of whether the source complaint is true.

See 0:48 to 0:54.

The first three sword WS: Exact same animation, different VFX.

I'd say that SE intended animations to be similar as there's lots of copy pasting with little tweaks here and there, but hey, they needed to get the game out.

MMOS are supposed to develop over time, to evolve based on the player base and its demands. I'm sure SE fully intend to develop everything, but you've got to start somewhere.

Rather than be arrogant and release a game they think everyone will love, they've released something in its infancy, which can be and will be moulded by its player base. It's not an out of the box polished bit of genius, yet.

Bruce Lee died too early.

We need to hybrid the awesomeness of Bruce Lee with the logevity of Bob Parker or something.

Hardly matters, mainly because FFXI makes WS effects very distinct and obvious.

wth is soo cool about that? I don't see your point at all. That graphic is ok, but not over the top. Look at Aion's ranger animations if you want to see cool stuff.
