I have a problem something like this too...but the main window doesn't shuts down, after it lode the "Square enix", the screen turns black, just black, nothing loads up...sometimes I have to turn off my computer and load the FFXIV again and "maybe" it'll work...and if it load up, I can play the game no problem, but with beta, I didn't have this problem at all...I want to figure out what's the problem... :( I want to play FFXIV!!!

With both of you, I would assume that your computers aren't really spec'ed to play the game properly. Just because its new, doesn't mean it is powerful.

With the 4500M card with 797mb of ram - I assume this is an intigrated video card, and shares RAM with the computer. If this is the case, it will most certainly not run the game.

Can you give more detailed specs on your machines?

I have a quad core 2.3xGHz, and runs in Win7 32bit , 4GB ram. I know my video card(Geforce 9600GT) is at the very minimum spec for this game, I was thinking of getting a new one...but the thing is I'm not sure if it's really the VC that's the problem...

I'm having the same black screen problem. I'm running an AMD Phenom II Black, GTX 470, 8gigs of memory and have about 3TB of free drive space. I benchmarked 7500 on high, This isn't an issue with hardware.

This is good to hear! That this might not be a hardware problem, if it's the software...there must be sth we can do...I hope...

I'm getting this right now too, with the black screeniness. I'll try rebooting, I guess. I loaded up windows for the first time in a couple of years for this game and I'm already being reminded of why I grew tired of it in the first place.

[edit] Reboot did jack didilly quidilly, still sitting at a black screen after the Square logo.

[edit] Solved(ish): the solution, until a patch comes along to fix this, is to keep opening the game over and over again until it works. It took 7 tries for me, but others are reporting as much as 30 attempts before it will load past the black screen on the start-up logo.
