I have learned...Follow

To read various websites to get a clue,
I have learned to navigate all the menus,
I have learned to select return from the menu when I get K.O.'d,
I have learned to switch jobs,
I have learned how to take up and complete levs,
I have learned to play a role in a party,
I have learned navigate all three major cities without getting lost,
I have learned how to go into active and passive mode,
I have learned to select normal synthesis when there is a white/yellow orb,
I have learned to select wait when there is a red orb or the element is unstable,
I have learned to sell junk items to NPCs and bazaar valuable items,
I have learned to sit, stand, wave, be angry and to cheer,

What I have not learned however, is why people who seem to care about this game enough to detail why they aren't happy with it are treated like the scum of the earth. I know that there are people that like to start trouble and get a rise out of all of the people that absolutely love this game but shouldn't we all stop to think for a moment about the people that aren't blatantly bashing the game just to start a riot on the boards. Is it really wrong to want to play and love another game as much as you loved and played a game from the past? Is it wrong to want to experience the same strong feelings you felt when you played an MMO from the past?
A lot of the people that are expressing their feelings are doing so because they really had high hopes for this game and think it has fallen short. Should they really be chastised because they expected a better experience but got something they felt was lackluster? In the end, we would all benefit from more people playing the game and having fun while doing so.

What I've seen is that most people have learned to accept mediocrity from new MMORPGS.

So the people who are complaining about (rightly) wanting a polished game on release are drowned out by the SE slaves who sit on their haunches and say "Yes Ma'am, may I have another". SE happily complies.

There's no reason why we shouldn't expect a launch game to be ready, polished, and bug free. There's no reason why we should accept and expect mediocrity from Square Enix.

Its a great game, and I'm having fun, but its not launch-worthy. It is still beta and I shouldn't be paying full price for a half-experience.

I don't think it is wrong for people to express their feelings about a game either way. People should not be chastised for their opinion.

I really have high hopes for this game, although, I have been somewhat disappointed with this game so far. I hope there are plans for a MAJOR overhaul of the battle system, UI, etc. I can see alot of potential with this game but I guess it may take time.

Dude, same logic - I love how anyone who likes the game is considered an SE 'slave'. There are a few quirks in the game, but people like myself can live with them. Some of us (a good number of people really) are actually really enjoying the game! I'm not a slave - If I didnt like it, I wouldn't play it.

If you can't look past a few release flaws, that's fine. Go play another 'polished' mmo. If FFXIV becomes 'polished' enough for your standards during that time, then feel free to come back. If it hasn't, then you can continue to play something else.

I understand both views but i have to say from my experience the words polished/mmorpg/launch. have never gone well together, personally i trust in the devs enough to believe they will get it right eventually. Until then i'm happy enough with the product as it is safe in the knowledge i know it will be bolstered in the future.

There's a difference between constructive criticism and blatant whining. All of the genuine concerns and suggestions have been discussed over and over, yet people continue to post "new" threads about the lag, lack of content (after day 2, really?), etc. etc. There's also the impossibly high expectations. Of course we all want a brand new MMO with zero lag, unlimited content, and zero downtime. But that's simply not possible. As to what is acceptable is pure opinion. Some people think the release has been the best of any recent MMO, some people think it should have been delayed an entire year, and some people will never be happy no matter how the game turns out.

Me personally, I like to have fun and I'm enjoying FFXIV a lot. I've never played a perfect game and this is no exception. This game really is not for everyone. People who think the game fails have two options: post critically in the proper channels (feedback forum), or whine in the general forum which SE is almost guaranteed to ignore. Guess which option is more common. That's personally why I'm sick of these "FFXIV fails for x, y, and z" threads.

It's said with a lot of things, if people are unhappy, they will complain. If people are happy, they just go about their business.
