Area of Effect/Targetting IssuesFollow

Anyone getting really frustrated with the confusing targetting in this game as well as switching your spells between area of effect and single target?

I'm using a controller and I don't even know how to change between area of effect and single target spells without clicking that green button with my mouse. During battle there's a lot of times when I need to do cure myself, AoE cure, or cure a single member, and this is currently difficult for me to do fluently, not even considering the server lag I'm experiencing.

also targetting seems confusing for me... as a Conjurer which needs to be selecting monsters as well as party members/myself. I can't even select party members using the up and down buttons like usual if I'm doing a <st> macro... and I don't know if I should be using /ta <bt> or something but it's really tough to use spells on the party then go back to the monster.

I don't even like any of the current classes right now, but I'm playing conjurer incase a magic class I do like comes out soon (a main healer/support class or summoner) considering dropping it to level up lancer instead because all of this is making it too difficult for me to play fluently atm.

any advice?

I set my macros like this:

CURE:
/aoe on
/ac Cure <me>
/wait 3
/aoe off

I use this for Stoneskin, Shockspikes, cure, sacrifice.

This way i always hit entire party with AOE and my macro turns my AoE off so when i use my hotbar to cast other spells they are single target for mob

I just never take target off of mob so there is no changing target. With the Macro set to <me> it has no need to shift targets and is always AoE. Since there is no MP difference between AoE and single i dont care if I am cured for 0 HP and my party mates for 200 so no MP is wasted.

Edit - wow i typed that horribly at first apologies

On another note... we dont have FKeys like in FFXI
(My guess is because there is no F13 and F14 for the last 2 members of a 15 man party F0 being you)

But we do have <p0> (urself) <p1> first member <p2> 2nd member and so on...
So you could always make macros for /ac Cure <p1> and as long as you use my previously shown macro set up it will AoE off of the that first member hitting the entire party that is in battle. While you, the distant CON, are in the safe distance nuking until your heart is content.

PS - two thumbs up SE for allowing Cure spells to give CON skillz after the update Woot Woot!

Now when SE enables the /target syntax... then we will really be in business because we can create our own Fkeys
I would make CTRL+1 self CNTRL+2 P1 CTRL+3 P2 and so forth with macro like this

/target <p1>

Then you would just hit Alt+1 which would be your cure spell like so.
/aoe on
/ca Cure <t>
/wait 3
/aoe off
