Ok so right now I'm playing FFXIV on my current system with the following settings:

Display Mode: Full Screen
Multisampling: No AA
Buffer Size: Resolution
Shadow Detail: Lowest
No check marks in any of the graphic settings
Texture Quality: Low
Texture Filtering: Lowest

My Rig:

OS: Windows 7 64bit
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.97 GHz(Can O/C to around 3.2 I believe)
Mem: 8GB
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT O/C 512MB GDDR3

And to be honest the game is running extremely smooth with no lag whatsoever. Now with that said even graphically it's beautiful but I have everything set to low. I want to see just how much better this game can look with higher graphical settings. I'm wondering if simply buying a newer Video Card would be suffice and if so does anyone have any recommendations? I will be building a newer pc but this wont be until most likely the 1st of the year so is there anything I can do now to get the most out of the system I already have????

There are a bunch of guide on these boards about building a new computer.

If you are planning on building a new rig in awhile - I would hold off upgrading your current PC.

TBH, you will pretty much be building a new PC with the parts you have that need to be upgraded.

Your CPU and Video card are dated.

To replace the CPU you will need a new motherboard, as the 775 socket and the AMD equivalent are outdated, so there is really no point buying another CPU in that chipset.

When you replace your motherboard, you will need new RAM also. You will be moving from dd2 to dd3.

Honestly, you will have to upgrade just about everything, so you might as well wait to build an entirely new computer.

imo.
