2 changes that would keep meFollow

First off, I'm not leaving, but I do have a few gripes (who doesn't, I know)...
(TLDR at the bottom)

These are some changes which I feel SE desperately needs to make, and as they are, are horribly outdated:

1 - A modern chat system. Example: WoW's. Now, I am not a fan of WoW; I am also not one of the ridiculously, close-minded people who instantly stops reading whenever WoW is mentioned either, but if you can't admit that there are areas of WoW which are so amazingly user-friendly as to be one of the best examples of its kind, maybe you need to step back and see just how far you are from most MMO players (I'm calling it now that the previous statement is going to come back to bite me so hard on the *** that I will need an anti-gravity toilet for the next month). Of the games I have played (let me see if I got that right, "Of the games I have played..."), WoW's chat system is the model of how easy and functional a chat system can be. FFXIV's is so far the utter opposite end of that ideal. So, in the spirit of this thread, 2 ways to fix the chat system: right-click functionality and a realistic character amount. These are both possible, even if PS3 limitations need to be considered.

2 - A modern guild system. Example: I'm going to use WoW again, but you can use almost any example within the last 5 years. I'll be a bit more brief here. The linkshell system needs just 2 things to make it not an utter pain-in-the-*** to use: the ability to add a player from a distance, and the ability to promote, demote, or kick a player who is offline. You can also add in the ability to have multiple ranks and name them, but this doesn't seem as needed (I'll leave this up to player preference).

I am sure there are other things which people feel are important to this game which SE has just ignored in favor of being "unique" (read: negligent and in a hole for the last 5 years), and I would like to read them (especially if you agree with mine above). While I do not mean to discourage anyone, I would like to say that PvP is the possible exception to this. Not every MMO needs PvP, and as the FF MMOs added it as at best an afterthought, you might be hoping for a feature that very few of the fan base of these games actually want, but feel free to rage. I mean, you read mine; I'll gladly read yours...

(TLDR, yay! ^^)
I want a modern chat system with the functionality of WoW's chat system.
I want the ability to be able to add people to a link from a distance, and promote, demote, or kick a player even if they're offline.

I don't get what you mean by how FFXIV is "the utter opposite". The only complaints I have are the character limit, and the fact that Alt+R/Ctrl+R require you to have send a tell first, and require you to open up your chat first. Other than that, I think the chat system is fine. Not sure what you mean by what you want right click to do though.

I agree that the character limit needs to be raised and think that the reply stuff should be fixed, but I'm not sure, besides chat channels and font, how you distinguish "what makes WoW's chat great" vs "what makes FFXIV's chat bad". They seem similar enough besides the named things.

I agree with all of this, although I must say I like the idea of being different for the same of being different and still calling it a Linkshell, not a guild. But I do agree that the ability to add/remove/demote/promote anyone regardless of where they are is a heavily desired one.

Yep, once they add this I'm good. The chat system would be a plus as well, haven't had any experience with guilds yet.

My apologies, digitalcraft; I totally meant to add in the auction house as a needed change at the end, but got too carried away.

(Edited this in response to a good point Mikhalia made...)
FFXIV'x chat system:
-different color chat
-resizable window
-tab for chat and for combat (no idea if more can be added)
-chat filters for in-game events (not just spam or profanity)
-keyboard shortcuts which apparently only work under certain circumstances (replies for example)

Ideal chat system (most from WoW's):
-different color chat
-resizable window
-options for font size
-options for window opacity (is that the right word? -how transparent it is)
-multiple chat tabs with the ability to feely add more
-chat filters for in-game events (not just spam or profanity)
-keyboard shortcuts which do not have pre-requisites
-right-click a name and have the options for trade, tell, party invite, guild invite, report spam, and ignore
-item, NPC, quest, and location links which can be clicked on and which show appropriate information
-option to minimize the chat window

There may be a few options I am missing, but this should give an idea of what a modern chat system can do.

I do feel that these little "comfort" issues may cause a problem in the long term. For instance if I try another game in the future and it's really user friendly compared to FFXIV it may make it seem better, at least at first glance.

I still wanna know what the big deal is with the chat system. Like I said, aside from the text amount being to small and my minor gripe about replying, what's wrong with the chat system?

EDIT: I'm not trying to be combative or anything, I just don't know what you guys are talking about that you want exactly. I might agree or disagree if I knew what you meant lol

And Mikhalia, for right-click funtionality, things like right-clicking a character to send a tell or invite to a link or party (I'll grant that may be more of a UI issue), or like right-clicking a name in chat to send a tell or invite. The chat just seems so horribly cumbersome due largely to having to type everyone's full name out just to be able to send them a tell, and because of the small window/huge font and limited character amount. (...yeah, I know I said some of that before, but I can't help how much it bugs me...)

Oh, okay. Yeah, I could live without that but I can also see how adding it would be a nice feature.

Woo = slow response time

See my 2nd post for a better idea of an ideal chat system. Sorry to lag behind all of you.

+1 on second post. All that stuff would be great. However I don't think that's what SE should put their resources toward at this moment.

Yeah the WoW chat system is much better, but this one is functional. It's worse, but it's not a game killer to me.

The chat change I would like to see:
FFXI window selection, you can choose different window backgrounds that make it more comfortable for you
Change color of chat similiar to FFXI
Change the size of window font
Have 5 tabs for different chat channels

As for LS Woo hit the nail on the head here. FFXI LS system had this stuff so I'm confused why FFXIV doesn't. Some reason it seemed like the devs didn't want to copy FFXI systems and in turn made the functionality worse. SE, FFXI systems worked! They need improvement here and there for FFXIV but not a totally redesign! Case in point, you could do a /sea all, send a /t, and invite to party without ever having to see them. Further more they would show up on your map. This worked.

Oops, sorry to hijack you thread with my little rant there but yea, OP hit the nail on the head.

Also, please do something with the battle system... it is HORRID! It lacks any kind of lustre and is just STUPID! Use Aion as an example for an exciting battle system if you must.

This.

I like have a small chat window.

I do not love having a small chat window filled with ginormous text.

first off i agree with the op
Wow is not the game for me for several reasons but theres 1 thing i Really love about wow that i wish this game will eventuallly have and that is the way you talk to eachother in say.

In FFXIV if you talk in say you have to read the chatbox and you have no idea who is actually talking since theres no chatbubble or animation from the person. In Wow this is very well done. if you talk in say your mouth moves and you move your body in a way you would if you're talking to someone. if you add a "!" or a "?" to your text it either does a shout or a shrug emote (while also moving the mouth) it makes it so much more immersive to talk to eachother.

also what i miss are idle animations. if you stand still you're just standing there staring off into space like a zombie. some idle animations will make you look more alive (aion does this very well even responding to the current weather)
