Yeah, they've said it's coming, so there isn't really a need for a petition. =\ I'm guessing the mail will come at the same time, since in XI the mail people stood in front of the AH>

I just posted this on another thread about 30 seconds ago, but here it is:

Quote:

Regarding auctionhouses:

Regarding Final Fantasy XIV and the market battle system is something we would like to consider the equilevent to the auction house we had in Final Fantasy XI. Only that you'll also be able to fix your equipment and things like that. It is something we really want people to enjoy. Also after the release of the game we will see how it goes and for example find out what kind of search options players will want and need and improve the situation. We don't really want to introduce the auctionhouse from the beginning because that is going to determine the economy system. So we want to improve it slowly and adjust it accordingly.

Italicized the important part for you. This is straight from an interview with SE.

I have been saying an AH is needed, and they have said they're planning to implement something like one EVENTUALLY, but regardless:

1) lol internet petitions
2) lol ffxiv core

Can someone show me where they actually said it was coming, all I have seen was that they hadn't decided until they saw how the retainer system worked. (or doesn't as is the current case)

Of course they said they don't want the economy to be detmined by an AH but that will happen whenever they decide to add one, there is nothing they can do about that.

Don't point me to that locked door in Limsa Lominsa either, they could take that out in the next patch for all we know.

I'm surprised after so many years of FF11 you guys have such faith in SE.

XI was a great game, was actually going to go back to it because I went back and played a trial and they had added so much great stuff. However since FFXIV was coming out I decided to go down this route, which I'm going to stick with.

Without regard to SE's history, there's two ways to approach any problem. You can either hope that it will be fixed or you can complain that it needs to be fixed. I've found the first to be far less stressful.

I have my fair share of complaints about the game, but yes, I do have faith in the developer. If I -honestly- believed that none of my concerns would ever get addressed, I'd quit playing.

I had a lot of complaints in closed beta that were resolved in open beta. I had a lot of complaints in open beta that were resolved in release. I'm pretty sure that not all of my concerns will be resolved; I'm sure that some of the things I'd like to see in XIV are things I will probably never get, but so long as I still see them improving the game, and so long as I still believe they will continue to improve it, I will continue to play.

Perhaps this is some elaborate way for wording "If you don't like it, leave" but honestly, the day I believe FFXIV will not improve features that are game breaking for me is the day I cancel my subscription. I quit WoW because (among other reasons) I had complaints about the game that I felt Blizzard would never do anything to resolve. I quit FFXI because (among other reasons) I had complaints about the game that I felt SE would never do anything to resolve.

Even if I have complaints about the way XIV works, so long as I at least have a reasonable belief that they will eventually be addressed, I will continue playing. If the game ever reaches a point where I have complaints that I feel will never be addressed, then that is the point at which I will bid farewell to Eorzea.

I won't lie and say that there's nothing about the game that really ****** me off. I've gone into a rant on here about at least two of them that I can think of off the top of my head (lack of AH and ****** payment options). In both cases, I'm hoping that SE will improve them in the future.

But in the end, as fun as +1ing may be, whining about my problems all day on the forums just raises my stress level unnecessarily, and wastes time I could be doing something else, like playing Minecraft, or Recettear, or UT3, or Fallout 3.

Or FFXIV.

Hmm, that's not as reassuring as I hoped it would be. That's not really as much "an auction house is coming" as "we want people to enjoy retainers... we want to improve retainers... we don't want to implement an auction house early... we want to improve 'things' slowly."

If that's all SE has said about it, it seems like it could still go either way, like the whole "we might consider it" with regard to every race being able to be either male or female.

Also, if anything, the statement that "[Retainers are] something we would like to consider the equivalent to the auction house we had in Final Fantasy XI" is suggestive of SE not planning to implement an AH. If they think that retainers are the equivalent, then there is no reason they would implement what they saw as already being implemented.

At least there is an upside to it not being there at launch. In that more people are crafting, so hopefully by the time there is either an AH or a search function there will be a large amount of crafters to sell me all my junk.

Instead of complaining about an auction house(which se should not give in to), get to know some crafters! There are materials they don't easily have access to if they don't fight, and exchange them for finished goods. Then you build a little network getting people what they need and you get what you want. Much more of a social aspect then the all impersonal ah. As a crafter myself if someone sees me in the guild synthing and they ask to make them gear with some materials they gathered off a dodo from fighting, I'm always happy to help out. Its exp for the crafter so everyone wins. Yay!

Let's see:

Shout spam for somebody who might need some feathers... guess at its going rate...afk my retainer for a day or two hoping somebody wanders by and buys them...

Or:

Put my feathers up for auction and the crafter can buy them.

~~~
If I want to make crafting friends, I can do that regardless of there being an extremely convenient auction house or not. I still met crafting people in FFXI when I wanted to. My wife, a cook, even made deals -- on three separate occasions -- with high-volume fishermen to engage in weekly trades. Where did we meet these people? The Auction House: they were selling what we wanted, their names were in the history.
