Here on Besaid, the world is very quiet. No one talks, no one parties, just thousands of people playing a single player MMORPG and being antisocial.

Has anyone else experienced such things on their server?

I don't know why people expect there to be robust conversations in /say. That's what linkshells are for and that's exactly why people have them. And I don't know what you mean by no one parties unless you mean specifically that no one parties with you. In which case, go get a linkshell.

Ok, I wouldn't expect long conversations in /say around town or a the aetheryte, but complete silence everywhere, even on the unofficial RP server? That's very odd for a new game.

No one talking on Selbina aswell. Even if you /tell people or ask for Party rarely or never responses.
In Shout you rarely see some japanese players shout for their LS or some French people asking for other french people.
Other than that, chat is absolutely dead, people are ignoring each other...

I don't know why this is but if this isn't changing i also may go play gameboy because super mario is even more interactive than FFXIV at moment.

I've never played any game that had something like a Guild/Linkshell where people held any kind of conversation in /say on a regular basis. You get a conversation here and there, but the for most part /say channel has always been pretty quiet. It's the nature of the system.

Besides, FFXIV's chat system is so cumbersome at the moment it isn't worth trying to say anything unless you're standing there specifically looking for conversation. Currently every little action seems to close or erase your chat (ever try having a conversation while synthing?) making talking the last thing most people would likely do unless communication was necessary to the task at hand.

I think it has to do with the fact that the game is new, and most people that are here (early) had groups already.

Another majority of the player base is exploring the game and not shouting for help with things they don't yet understand.

A lot stems from the fact that you can be every class, and a lot of people just gather and make everything themselves, or have a group that can feed of each others crafts.

some ppl talk on wutai. People ask questions a lot and i usually help them out. its kinda dissapointing though, FFXI was a -lot- more social and enjoyable.
Some people are pretty cool though. Like they said thanks when buying stuff from my bazaar and such.

I think a huge part has to do with the fail chat system.
First, you cant talk while crafting.
having to /tell 2 names each time you send a message is annoying
no ls chat window
no party chat window
no /tell window.

I mean for an mmorpg this is ridiculous and lazy. Programming in a window for /tells only or /ls only is EASY. Not to mention they -had- it in FFXI. How hard could it possibly take to get one programmer to spend a day to put it in the game.

More talking than Beta, but it's still silent compared to even a match of MW2 (even after you remove the "hacker" "noob_______" shouts in that game).

I have hopes that it will become a bit more chatty over the months. Otherwise it's going to start feeling empty if all you chat with is your LS and Company.

I have only noticed one shout on Istory. In town and around aeth....nothing. I hope this changes and people start to open up a little. That being said, I would rather have silence than see rmt shout nonstop lol.
