Ok, i know in ffxi they had an awesome storyline. But in FFXIV im just not tracking the storyline and general purpose of the game, or at least the overall plot. I mean I can do leves, grind, and craft but to what point?

Right now as the game stands, I see no point to it other than give SE money. I've already spent near to 100 bucks just getting this game so I'm gonna stick it out for a bit and see if anything changes.

....not untill CoP....which was its second expantion ater being out a couple of years, as opposed to less than a week.

Honestly ive found the three main story quests far more engaging than all three nations rank 1-5 quests. Prob due to the quality of the character animations.

It seems nobody realizes that FFXI was out for a year prior to North American launch, had no Auction house at launch, glaring bugs, only rank 1-5 (shadowlord) mission, level 50 camp and very few (smaller) areas. Sound familiar?

Welcome to the world of MMO's kiddies. They are always pushed out too early. It's like this is everyones first launch. Settle down check out the patch notes for next week. I'm sticking around.

No offence to the OP but I dont understand why you're asking this.

FFXI had a decent-ish storyline in the first few ranks and not much else. All you did was grind. At level 20 you had no idea how awesome the storyline was gonna be come rank 7+.

It's about enjoying the journey, and seeing where it will take you. Don't get me wrong, I loved FFXI, but during the grind between levels 1-12 and in the dunes between 12-20, none of us had any idea what we were doing it for. Besides, the storylines seem pretty strong at the minute, it has a 'calm before the storm' feel to it.

I disagree, in FFXI we knew from the moment we logged in and watched the opening movie that we were at war against the beastmen. In sandoria we were constantly under attack by orcs and gobs. There was even on orc outpost right next to the main city.

FFXIV from the opening movie looks like they're saying, ok at first it's gonna be monster hunter online but someday you'll fight a big monster maybe.

And I'm definately getting a hint of what happened with tavnazia in the later half of the opening movie when he's riding on the flying thing.

Yeah, I can see where you are coming from. However, I consider the small part of the story we have already experienced as introductory at best (e.g. Cleansing in Gridania, the treasure quest in Limsa). I'm just saying at this point you should be enjoying the journey rather than getting too hung up on 'to what end'. The game is still in its infancy and who knows what content will be added/ is waiting for us in the latter levels.
