So someone was tellig me that if I get too far in Blacksmithing, my other craft skills won't rise as fast when I go to do those. Is that true?

I.e. I've been working on blacksmithing, but I may bring wood working up as a secondary class since some of the recipes call for wood pieces.

What's the deal?

I have not heard anything like that.

You can level all the classes with no penalty.

Haven't heard anything like that. Might be related to the whole surplus system, but that applies universally to all classes, and has nothing to do with crafting in particular. You can level all of your crafts as much as you want. XI did limit how far you could go with crafts, essentially forcing you to pick one high level craft, but XIV has no such limit (yet).
