You cannot use someone's Buddy Pass unless you know them in real life. You need to use their game disc to install the game, then you enter the buddy pass code in on the site to create your limited time accounted. It will not work if you install the game from a mirror site.

lol, what!? CD A and CD B and CD C are all identical. There is no special encryption or any stupid thing like that locking a guest code to a specific CD. You can download the retail DVD off of torrent sites now, and then just put in the buddy pass key when you activate your FFXIV account. This will give you 30 days of game play. Then to keep playing, you will have to register a full retail CD key.

The directions on the Buddy Pass sheet clearly state you must install the game using your friend's cd or else it won't work. I gave my buddy pass to a friend out-of-state, and he downloaded the game off of a mirror/torrent site. When he tried to log into the game using the account he made with the buddy pass code, it came up with an error and would not let him play. He tried downloading the game from a different mirror site and the same error came up upon log in.
Goodluck though.

I have never posted here but I have to correct this stupidity being spread by Kiwwa.

I have never used my install DVD. I torrented the UK copy of the collectors edition and I live in NA. I also gave that copy to a friend of mine. I used my NA key and he used my NA buddy pass key and we both have been playing with no issues.

Excuse you, I'm not spreading stupidity. I was sharing what happened to me when I gave my buddy pass code to a friend faraway. Way to be rude.

Oh, excuse me. Technically you weren't being stupid. You were being ignorant. Ignorant to the way computers work.

Every single FFXIV disc is the same data. The hash signature matches on every version. They are all identical discs. You made an incorrect assumption that because your friend's disc didn't work, twice, that it was because of some kind of arbitrary DRM procedure encoded on the disc. You were wrong. This is not the case. Either there is a problem with your friend's computer or the software he has.

Research the case before using your own misconceptions as an example.
