Been getting some strange patterns in game, these are only on character models and only visible at certain camera angles. I'm currently running on standard shadows but have tried higher settings with no change. Its almost like a blocky set of lines and cross patterns across my back and arms.

First off I wanna say the game normally looks perfect and I run around 35-40 fps outside of town on above medium settings.

currently running the gts 450 with latest beta drivers.

The picture is taken at 2x MSAA, didnt notice any change at all going up to 8x CSAA

Forgot to clarify that I've got all the way to highest shadow settings with no better results.

Definitely looks like a shadow problem, but if changing the quality settings isn't working for you, I'm not sure what might be causing that. The effect is prominent on character's faces usually at lower shadow quality settings, but for you it seems to be amplified all over the place. What game resolution are you running? Windowed or fullscreen?

is ambient occlusion on or off? It's definitely the self-shading that's messed up.

check your video card driver settings? If you have any shader methods that might interfere. or some Z-buffer setting or other depth buffer that you can fiddle with. Make sure all that stuff is application controlled.

Running 1680x1050, normally run windowed but also no change in fullscreen mode. Ambient occlusion is off as well.

ok running full screen 1680x1050 with highest shadow detail gives me a little better results but still noticeable.

If you exhaust these ideas posted above. Uninstall those beta drivers and try a standard one.

Unless it annoys you to death, give it a few weeks, it might be a driver compatibility issue and might disappear with new drivers or patches to FFXIV
