ok me and my brother are on the phone fighting on the topic of his pc being good enought to run ff14.

his specs are:
intel (r) pentium dual cpu e2200 @2.00ghz
4.00 gb ram
ati radeon HD 2600 XT

I think he will just be a crybaby and call me to complain every 10 minutes if he doesn't get a little better graphics card and he thinks that what he has is better than the required spec on the box.

Maybe I'm wrong. What do you guys think? Am I wrong is it just good enough to work. I don't what else to say to the little chump. help me out

Have him do the FFXIV benchmark and see how low his score is and then show him the performance test by another company that does system benchmarking.

This list is submitted my users of passmark:

Well something's gotta give. The card looks barest minimum for a game like FFXIV and the processor is on the slow side, too. The game will probably run on the lowest possible settings I guess, but "run" and "playable" are two different things.

anything in the ati 2000s that not a 2900 is a PoS, everything in the 3000s is a PoS. Spend 50$ and get a 4550 or something. FYI they stopped selling 2900s a year after they started.

That said, I have 2 2900s in crossfire. Running windowed doesn't support crossfire and the game runs pretty poorly at 1440x900 with textures quality at high, filtering at highest, 2xMSAA, standard shadows, and resolution size buffer. Runs excellently at fullscreen 1680x1050 since crossfire works then.

edit: i also have a core 2 quad OCed @ 3.04Ghz and core duo is 1 or 2 releases behind quad(depding if you count core2 quad seperate from core2 duo), with a much slower cache and much smaller FSB. I get all my cores up to about 70-80% while playing, so I would bet that that processor would not be doing to well.

You aparently have no clue what you are talking about, Everything in the 2000 series of cards was horrible. The HD series didn't start picking up steam untill the 3000's came around. There was not a single good card in the 2000 series, it was considered the FX series of ATI cards. I had a 2900 XT and hated ever moment of it.

Sad day... he probably could have built 3 FFXIV more-than-capable desktops with his own hands for the price he paid for the alienware.

Must admit I am currently browsing around.

One thing I plan on doing is buying a good graphics card, so far the one recommended by SE I found the upgraded version which is 1.5GB instead of 1GB. If all goes well then I can let you know what I currently have.

The current PC I have I brought the backbones which cost £300 quid I got about 1 year ago. Good motherboard/processor/memory/gcard. But the Gcard on low settings of FF14 plays alright but when mass people etc does lag a little so going to try a better card and see how I go.
