Personally i do not have a credit card as i see them as a way of stealing your money. So when the box said FREE 30 DAY TRAIL i thought cool i wont need a credit card.
Then when i go to play i find out that i have to register some bull **** with a credit card. Yet no where on the box dose it say i will need one.
I am writing an official complaint asking for a refund because of this ******** false advertising.

It also says "Requires an accepted payment method to play."

We can go around in circles on this all day if you want. It does exactly what it says so on the box, no false advertisement given. Supply them with an accepted payment method, and you can play for 30 days for free included with the purchase of the game.

One term does not preclude the other.

Good luck with that.

Might want to look into one of these. You know, if you're not so thoroughly blinded by righteous RAEG that you can't even see straight.

I thought you could buy Crysta through Paypal and/or tie it into your bank account without needing a credit card? Am I wrong?

What game were you really playing that didn't need something of this nature? Get a bank debit card with a visa logo.... This is an expected thing in any subscription mmo. Your complaint letter will be pinned to the wall in the break room like it should be to be laughed at or taped over the urinal cakes. Either way... I personally would take a picture of me laughing at your absurd letter and send it back in response.

So you get a free trial period for which you must possess an accepted payment method (which will not be charged, since the trial period is free). The free trial period is a *trial* for people who are considering *subscribing*, thus SE wants assurance that you have the ability to subscribe. Doesn't seem that hard to understand to me.

Umm, okay, yea... So... stupid question here, just hear me out okay? If you bought this game for the 30 day trial... What were you going to do after...? Did you think they'd just let you keep playing or did you just intend on taking the game back?

But on the off-chance this isn't just a random trolling thread, SE didn't lie really and there was no false advertising. If you'd take the time to set everything up you would see there's a different paying option called Crysta. By using a third-party called UltimatePay, or at least I think that was the name, you can bypass any needs of a credit card. Just go to a bank, sign up for a bank account (Checking) and register yourself a Paypal account. Proceed to link that to your UltimatePay account and buy yourself some Crysta. Now use that to pay for FFXIV. You have to jump thru a few extra hoops but if you're really that adamant about using the evil evil plastic then this is the only option available.

Like it or not, all MMOs these days that aren't F2P are gonna require a card of some sort. Eventually you may even see game cards (Doesn't UltimatePay have these available for sale somewhere already?) specifically meant for Crysta you can use instead of credit/debit cards.

You don't need a CC to use the free trial. Just go into your SE account, set up a character, select payment using Crysta (even if you haven't bought any), and it will read a $12.99 charge with a $12.99 reduction, requiring you to pay nothing.

So let me just see if I understand this. You bought the game. $50 or $75 depending on which version of it, plus applicable taxes. You knew that if you wanted to keep playing after 30 days you were going to have to pony up. How did you think you were going to pay for it after 30 days? Or did you just blow the money on the retail box for 30 days of XIV glee and figure you'd cancel and be done with it after that?

Even if he isn't and what you say is true just about anyone can open up a checking account and use a debit card. I myself have a debit card (Visa logo) I use with FFXI and FFXIV, no problems whatsovever.

You have to be 18 to open a checking account (in most states). So if he is a kid he is probably younger then 18. So he would have a problem.

Well you have to be an adult to play FFXIV anyway unless you have a parent/guardian's permission I believe. Either way it's not that hard to use an account opened by an adult then. If the OP is under age and trying to play without their parent's approval then they shouldn't be playing in the first place. By the way, the OP still didn't explain how they planned to pay for the game otherwise. I still say this is probably a troll thread...

The game is rated teen. He doesn't need his parents approval to play but he does need their approval to use a credit card. As well as try to explain why he should have to pay for a video games he already paid 75$ for..? Trying to explain this stuff to parents can be hard to say the least..

Edit: Also the kid can have cash.. just not a credit card..

you don't need paypal - you can pay using ultimate gaming cards. you can buy them at 7-11s - although my 7-11s were all out... but I found them in a drug store.

Again - no credit card needed. You don't even need a bank account.

He needs his parents' approval to play not because of the game's rating but because it's part of FFXIV's Terms of Service. You must either be over 18 or have the approval of a parent/guardian. It's stated quite prominently, in fact.

Who is "them"? If someone charges something to your Credit card, you call the card company and tell them, they will take it off. I have 1 credit card, and keep keep close watch of it.

In any case, You have to be the only person in the world who would spend $50+ on a MMO expecting to only play it a month. I'm shur plenty of people DO quit after the month, but they don't buy it expecting to play it only 30 days.

Post was a good laugh for me.

OP has only posted three times now, and none of them state how he/she intended to pay for the game after their free "trail" as they so eloquently put it. I still say this was a trolling thread. And by the way, for those who want to return the game (Including the OP.) once the game has been opened stores will not take it back. Additionally, while you can write for a refund to Square Enix, if any of the codes have been used then it completely voids your chances of a refund right there. In the back of the NA manual it states that if:

Quote:
(a) your place of purchase is unwilling to accept returns or exchanges of opened software AND
(b) you have not accepted this Agreement during installation process AND
(c) you have not entered the Registration Code contained with the Licensed Software packaging AND
(d) it has been less than 30 days since you purchased your software, AND
(e) you purchased your copy of the Licensed Software in, and are currently located in, the United States or Canada,

THEN you may contact your Region's SQUARE ENIX affiliate and request a full refund of your purchase price for the Licensed Software, not including taxes or shipping and handling charges.

They go on to say how it's their discretion and they will only make decision to refund or not if you show copy of receipt, the complete undamaged package and all contents the game came in, and they've made confirmation that the Registration Code included has not been used. If you threw something away (Inserts, the box, token, etc.) then you're outta luck. Same goes if you registered everything before setting up payment. So that's it in a nutshell.
