Is anyone worried that they are taking to long exploring other classes/jobs as you start to see 16's-mid 20's out and about? Personally when I play this game I don't feel the urge to power through to the next level which is an amazing thing. Just curious to hear everyones 2 Gil. Do you feel rushed?

I thought this last night when I was doing botany and a 20 was running about. Then switched to weaver where I couldn't complete a synth so got a 15 weaver to help out. Yes there are 20-30's out there but i wasn't disheartened. These people seem to have lvld 2-3 jobs maybe 5 at most.
I've spent a good amount of time exploring both classes and areas even ran with LS members to that northern city (forget name) only to find gates locked.
The thing is I can pretty much guarantee that my 12 ARC is more effective as I have abilities from other jobs. And I know the game/areas well.
Currently I sit like this:
Phys: 20
ARC 12
GLD 9
all other DoW + DoM 6

WVR ALC CRP 10
Other DoH 6-9

BOT MIN 10-11

I'm happy where I'm at and in no hurry to power through to the end levels! The game has been said by the makers it's not about Class growth but character growth. Who has an ARC who can't use at least cure/second wind/bloodbath?

No. I actually like the physical level / class rank system in this game so far - I can try out different DoW / DoL / DoH classes just to see if I like them, and at the same time I'm gaining exp towards my physical level. And having your physical level higher than your rank makes it easier for you to level up your classes as you'll be able to take down even match and even toughs that you otherwise would not be able to if you were playing the game on one class exclusively. I like the fact that I can run around killing mobs, and then stop when I see a logging/mining/fishing spot to do some DoL stuff - and all these activities gain physical exp.

There's a lot of stuff in the game currently that I do not like - which has mostly already been covered by *many* people already on these forums (no sorting, UI lag, too many menus, no AH, .etc. etc.), but I actually find the leveling/rank system pretty flexible and fun so far.

With physical rank of 16 I've gotten both Conjury and Botanist to 10, with Weaver at 9 and a few other DoH/DoL classes at 8-6. I don't care too much about my phsyical rank, I much prefer leveling various classes to build up skills for use later. I plan to be as self-sufficient as possible but still buy stuff I might not be able to make on my own. So far I've rather enjoyed myself and I'm definitely having fun.

Sort of, yeah. I don't have tons of time to dedicate to the game right now, and even the members of my LS have gotten to rank 20+ levequests and started running those together, taking off in exp and level. It leaves the lowbies like me behind and quickly increases that gap.

need to care less about others. If you're feeling rushed after a week of the game because other people are ahead, you probably shouldn't be playing mmo's to begin with. It's supposed to be fun.

I'm only 12 on my LNC, 8 Conjurer & 6 Archer and still not even sure if I am sticking with LNC, I really wanted to main Archer, but idk >< And 8 on a couple crafts, 6 on another.

Ask again in 5 months.

Not at all, and I'm LNC4/Physical6. I'm fine with playing for a few hours each week until I can find a better play schedule, and I don't really care what levels I'm at. I'll enjoy the game when I can.

I don't mind it. The people powering to a high level will be the consumers of the products that I am spending these early days to craft.

The faster you hit level 50 the sooner you are waiting for an expansion.

Maybe not feeling left behind, but i am definitely wishing that i'd focused my initial efforts more than I did. I tried to do a little bit of everything simply because the game is new but i SHOULD have picked one craft and blasted it to 15 before i ever picked up a weapon. Its not too late to correct though.

The fastest/easiest way to level without fighting... Get local leves for Carpenter or whatever job you want. They will provide the Materials AND the crystals, so you do not have to go searching for them.

Then do all the quests you can, go to the next city and repeat.
I was making Wood Planks for a bit and went up 5 levels, low level players will benefit the most from this.

the 36-hour cooldown takes effect after 10 quests are completed. You can do those 10 quests in the space of a couple hours. I'm not so sure thats a great way to level...

next time you see a lvl 20 check their gear... Most of them haven't had time or the availability for anything short of the lvl 6 gear. The level 11 gear is just starting to show up in most worlds, and considering you need crafting over 20 for the 16+ gear, we probably will not see it showing up on more than a couple people for another week or two. I have 3 classes above 10, and 3 others at 8, and a physical level of 22. I am happy where I am right now. And I am now getting my gear so I can level more crafting and conjury up:).

I am finding it hard to play other classes than conj. Everytime i equip that weathered scepter, I think to myself, I could be playing the one discipline that I enjoy the most. So my other disciplines have really suffered, but i'm still having fun. my phys level is low but I don't mind. Currently 16 conj 16 phys. I'm really trying to increase conj fast since i'm working on a very extensive and thorough guide for the ZAM community. (go check it out if you have any conj questions) =D

level 17 Con!

But I've been on vacation so I was deliberately grinding 1 battle class to get ahead of the SE hordes because when I am not on vacation I don't wanna be fighting them for everything.

Yet I still got bot 9, alchemist 13, carpenter 10, mining 8

I will be leveling THM in a while but I'd rather focus on CON now because I need the money from level 20 leves to use for my crafts. I've just started fishing because I want to be at least semi self-sufficient with fish caught for leves. When SE finally frigging enables us to get more retainers I will start culinarian - but atm the lack of inv space makes it impossible for me to start any new crafts.

I guess since I played the beta I had a good idea of what I wanted to level in this game.. I'm definitely not far ahead, but I'm happy with where I'm at. I'd rather be able to make myself gear as I move forward with conjurer, as well as provide my fiance with a dodoskin harness when he hits level 22 >< So weaving and tanning are priorities. Now I have to level alchemy as I find it's necessary to use dyed cloth and leather for more and more synths.

The awesome part about this game is that I don't feel rushed... in fact there are usually about 10 things I should be doing at any given time that have nothing to do with pushing my conjurer forward. I like the depth in this game, the ability to gather that which I need, level a craft for basically free and turn a profit based on hard work alone. It's something I was never able to achieve in FFXI.

When I see level 20 DoWs run past me.. I don't feel left behind..I think "hmm, they're going to need a new harness soon" :p

I'm definitely falling behind. I just got the last of my DoH classes to rank 10 last night (still haven't touched cooking). My gladiator...my highest ranked combat class...just hit rank 11 last night. I only have 200k gil. My physical level is 25 from all the crafting I've been doing (hit surplus at level 23). And I'm okay with seeing people in much better gear with much higher level combat classes bombing around. I'm having fun. I hope they're having fun. That's all that matters.

I know I am behind on DoW/DoM jobs. I started as a Gladiator and it was a grind getting to just level 9 on that. Levequests gave inconsistent skillups, finding mobs in my level range was difficult it took probably 4-5 hours. Then I made the switch to conjurer and found a nice little location that respawned 6 mobs consistently and I took Conjurer to 7 and Thaumaturge to 6 both in less than an hour without any leves.

I am enjoying fishing the most, but at level 15 it already requires catching about 130 fish to gain a single level. Plus, SE has done away with giving out upgraded fishing poles/armor as levequest rewards, so skilling up is taking a very very long time. It is already about 3 hours of straight fishing to gain 1 level.

I personally don't care that people are jumping ahead of me in levels at an astounding pace. I have a 2 year old son, a wife, and a full time job so I don't play nearly as often as those that don't have anything better to do. I understand that some people find joy in powering through to the higher levels. These are the players that will most likely end up spending half their playtime helping people like me that dont get to play that often. I like kinda just lazing through the game at my own pace and thanfully so far the game is very solo friendly unlike XI. I'm proud of my current character who is PhysLevel:9 THM5/BOT5/FSH5/ALC9 (Alchemy is most likely gonna be my main job I love crafting.) To those that rush to the end I worry that they gonna be stuck leveling other jobs while they wait for most of endgame content to be added (I mean come on, SE left out auto-sort, QuickReply, etc.... do you really expect much to be waiting at this point?) Some people may get that left behind feeling but remember this, if your LS is blowing past you in ranks you can always ask if they wanna low level another class with you. Play at your own pace and enjoy the game your way! :)

Tbh 200k gil is pretty easy to make. Once you get to lv 10 Leve some pay 5k a pop. The key is to use what you get and work on your crafting. At first I was really suprised to see the physical lv 20-30s but the more time I spent actualy doing something and not just chatting the faster the physical xp added up. While my conj and thuam are below 10 I have a pretty good mix of crafts going. It's all about the pace you set for yourself. They key is definately to have fun. I am just happy I can be Little Ms. Weaver and not be yelled at for not level grinding anymore ^^

Physical level is easy to get when you're doing synthesis that grants anywhere from 800 to 1500xp/item. Compare that to a combat class that goes out and bombs around killing IT mobs for 300xp each. I can do one synthesis for every IT mob they kill (counting rest in between) and I don't spend a ton of time sourcing mats...I just use what i get from my own grinding, a bit of mining/botany, and levequests. Yes, I've been binging since release because it's new and shiny and I've got the time right now. But my point is that other people are off in their higher rank DoW/DoM classes doing things I'd like to be doing and it doesn't bother me. Relative to them, I'm falling behind. I had my own strategy and approach to developing my character going into the game and I'm following it.

I feel like i'm ahead just not far enough. Soon the worlds will be flooded with brand new players spamming XP camps and mobs again just like day 1 of the pre-release. My niche market for farming mats for crafters will be flooded, and the market for gear will become diluted. Feel like i'm in a rush to be best prepared to make the most off of the new crop coming in, and after this one it's time to race against the PS3 users coming in march.

I think I approached this game the wrong way - for a long time, I've started new MMOs by choosing a new class, and then levelling that class.

It's taking me a while to get used to FFXIV. I don't have much time to play, so obviously other people are going to be getting ahead of me. But what I was unprepared for was the 'horizontal' breadth of the game. I've started 4 jobs so far, 2 DoW, 1 DoH and 1 DoL. All my levels are still under 10. But I think this game is about the long term.

I don't know what will happen when the standard edition players join. There's already a lot of competition for non-leve mobs and when the population increases I don't know what it will be like. I'm hoping that more people will be sharing leves, but I'd still like to be able to do some solo mob grinding in the outside world.

I guess it's still very early days - I'll just wait and see what happens!

Its all in the eye of the beholder really. He feals that he is behind becouse he has crafts and other jobs that just have not been touched yet. Others may look at the sum of gil or the fact he has x job at x rank and think wtf your not behind. For once there is a non sci-fi mmo out that really is player driven in every aspect. Every little thing you do builds up your character in some way shape or form. The only other game I can think of that comes close to that is maybe Eve online.

It pretty much always happens in a head-start type environment. I've been in three other head starts, and generally there is a certain percentage of the head-start folks who are just very focused on using the head start to ... well ... get a head start. :) It doesn't bother me much. I've been playing a few hours each day and leveling the various crafting classes as well as my main DoW and now a secondary DoW. I do notice the people who are leapfrogging ahead, but as I say, that's very normal in a head-start, but I'm not especially troubled about falling behind. Once the main flow of players is in the game, we'll be seing more diversity in terms of advancement speed, and I'm comfortable doing things at my own pace as well.
