Does "Social Networking" even exist in FFXIV?Follow

Graphics, Stories, Gameplay etc..etc.. are part of any game, be it single player, multi player or massively multi players. The truely unique thing about MMO's, in my mind, is their social networking aspect. The ability to make new friends, make new enemies... join parties, guilds, raids.. basically interact with others while working towards some sort of individual or shared goal.

I'm not seeing this... at ALL in FFXIV. Beyond the Linkshell system, which is extremely limited. There is only a base Grouping system that allows for very little interaction. There is nothing that helps players meet up with other players who are working on similiar goals.. nothing to promote the "Social" at all.

So - am I missing something, or did SE really drop the ball when it comes to building a community for FFXIV.

I dont think there's much of a social network at the moment because its all so spankin' brand new, everyone trying to find their 'niche' in the game

Its just like the Market system, its going crazy now people charging too much for stuff, but it'll settle down shortly after the 'newness' is gone lol

It will depend on what happens after the beginner period.
If progression requires working with other players, naturally players will seek out players and bonds will be formed.
It's hard to judge from the first bunch of levels what the interaction with other players will be like in this game, in the same way beginner mode for any MMO has little socialising.
Alternatively, this game has the most potential for early game socialisation as crafting requires codependence on so many other crafts, players have already begun to seek out others instead of trying to be self sufficient.

Has SE dropped the ball? Maybe it's too early to decide based on experiences as being a beginner.

I do believe it does. I'm in 3 LS and they have 7, 20 and 90 people in each different LS. Beta seemed to have a different feel to it. I think because people were asking for how does this I still see this a lot in town and we'll see this again on the 30th.

I think its hard to answer people when your crafting because of the timer issue and the UI takes away your chat logg. It seems alot chat is need GL party or selling X items. The game is new give it some time and i believe you will see this community will shine.

There's a few things which defer chatting to me personally.

The first is the amount of spam you get in your chat box when battling. I've configured mine personally and it's not as bad, but others may not have, on top of this you should be allowed to change colour of linkshell or any other type of text to your preference, so you can easily see the chat stand out.

The second is like some mentioned earlier, crafting and chatting is insanely annoying. Same goes for chatting while auto running, you move your mouse to change direction, BAM, resetted everything you were just typing. Easy fix for this, when you press space again, it continues from where you left off.

Other problems are the multi lingual servers, you're playing with Japanese and a crazy amount of other languages so chatting is deteriorated. Changing the transparency of the chat box would also be nice. Luckily I've got myself in a great linkshell, but if I didn't, seeing chat would be a rariety.
