I just wanted to ask if anyone can explain to me what the crafting items are for? I mean..I craft a Salty Cod for example...but what does that do? The food doesn't appear to give any buff or give me a way to eat it...I see a recipe for the Jack-o-Lantern...and I have the components..but what am I doing with the Jack o lantern? In other games when you crafted items there was a clear path to what that item was used for (either a buff or another ingredient for another crafting item). I just hate working so hard for these components and then get an item I have NO idea what to do with it.

Thanks

Depends on the item. In most crafts (i.e. not culinarian), many of the items you make are required in other recipes. There's not much you can do to see what they're used for other than either look it up online, or keep your own recipe book by writing down every recipe you are told after completing a leve.

For your Salty Cod, I'm fairly sure you can eat it. Press 'u' (in default layout) to bring up the usable item menu. You'll get a "well fed" buff, which I believe raises stats based on the food in question.

SquareEnix loves to make us figure things out for ourselves. I don't wanna, sounds like you dont either. Wait a few weeks and I'm sure someone will set up a culinary database with effects in no time.

That's what Salt Cod does, boosts evasion and elemental resistance for 1800 seconds.

At the top of Zam's forums is a Database tab. Under that tab is an item tab. Very useful. Zam is an awesome aid for us FFXIV players :)
