So I've crafted a few of these so far, but never understand what's different about them.

All stats are exactly the same except with stars added to them (meaning....?) and the only difference to be see in the item's stats is improved durability. So what exactly do those stars do, and why don't they just put the actual new numbers if those mean an invisible bonus to those stats.

As far as I can tell it only improves the durability of an item.

You can charge 1.5x more for them?

Well improved Durability means less time and Gil spent on reparing the gear which means more time available for adventuring, fighting mobs, crafting, harvesting, etc.

Plus, some players will pay a little bit more for a HQ item to maximize their efficency, even if it's not all that great. Just like in FFXI why would someone pay 1K for a low level NQ weapon but x3-x10 the cost for a +1 version that only had +1 to base damage and maybe had a 3%-5% improvement in weapon delay? Same goes for +1 Armor that may only have 1 more DEF point added.

Because they just bough 1M Gil from some guy in Korea, so they didn't really care about costs.

It seems to scale. Lowest level gear there's no difference, higher level gear differences are a point or two here and there.

Where did you see that? Can you make HQ high level gear already? If so, what server are you on and how much do you want for it? Seriously, I can't find anybody who can even make a bronze spatha, much less an iron one, which would be super nice. If you or someone you know has crafting that high then they could be BALLIN' right now.

True that. Gilbuyers have more than enough real money to throw away for virtual wealth and items.

But yah, It'd be nice to see some niftier effects on +1, or +2 items. I remember how some gear back in FFXI went from "ho-hum" NQ to "Wow" HQ. One set of Armor that did that was the NQ Alumine Haubert set vs. the HQ Luisant Haubert Set. The NQ Set gave only DEF, but the HQ Set gave + to STR, DEX, Attack, and Accuracy with a penalty applied to AGI and Evasion.

each star seems to be roughly 2-3 stat points. Or atleast thats what they were in open beta. bronze dagger in ob had 48 damage(i think.) bronze dagger +1 had 51. it was still listed as 48 on the item but when you equipped it you could see the difference. Same for defensive stats.

So SE has added even more hidden stats. I'd rather have a number than a star-code system.

I dunno what retail is like but if no numbers are showing up its likely unintentional. FFXI and open beta had high quality synths and they showed stat upgrades. I'll have to check later if I find one that show stat difference between NQ HQ I'll post a screen.

EDIT: Thought, I should note that I really do love SE, even though I know they don't love me back.

I am pretty sure the SE dev process breaks down like this:

1) Concept (This step is easy, It's final fantasy, dragon quest or "Square-Enix made that game? I thought they only did Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest")
2 days

2) Story (Drop a lot of acid and write down what ever your "heart-mind" hears from the "life-stream")
4-5 trips

3) Graphics (Maybe if we make it pretty enough people will forget that they could never like this one nearly as much as anything before FF X.)
Design and generation: 20,000 man-hours // Optimization: Lolwut?

4) Music (Can we get Nubuo to do it? no?...=(...maybe just one track?)
Nobuo: As much time as he needs // Anyone else: Who cares?

5) Gameplay (Reinvent everything!(read: the wheel) [Ed. Note: http://www.captainsquid.com/go/UniqueDemotivator.jpg])
6 months to develop, 2.5 years to explain

Most companies would be ready for release right now, but not SE, they have an extra special last step!

6) Cram as much random, hidden BS into the game as possible and don't tell anyone about it.
What do you think they are doing during all that time they try to explain their ridiculous new gameplay mechanics?
