leveling taking a ridiculously long time?Follow

I have to admit I bought this game because I love leveling in groups, but most players are claiming that soloing is the most efficient way to level at this point in the game.

I was looking at numbers and apparently at rank 25 it takes 130,000 skill points to rank up. Isn't that a bit ridiculous? If I continue earning the same rate of ~150 SP per kill that could take a week or more for a single level.

Are they inflating the time it takes to level until they add more content?

Well there are some level 20s in my ls and they group up past level 10 so solo is not the best way to get exp. I would say it's about the same as FF XI. Solo until about 11 or 12 then party up around that level.

This is par for the course when it comes to SE and their MMO's. The design works pretty well, too. The big difference between FFXI and FFXIV is that where there was very-little-to-no means of competent soloing in FFXI, there's the option to solo in FFXIV...it just is not the most efficient option. Square still wants you to group, they're just giving you an option to actually solo that wasn't there in their previous online title.

I have found that duoing works best at the moment(rank17). Easier mobs give little xp and the harder mobs hit too hard for a group with 1 healer to keep up. Maybe once the crafters catch up and players can stay appropriately geared, larger hunting parties will work.

I'm not even trying to level a combat class right now. My Gladiator just hit rank 13 tonight while grinding for shards. (Turns out that there's a rank cap for earning shards from mobs, and I hit it at rank 13 Smiley: cry).

More to the point, I see a lot of people running around in groups and my grouping experiences haven't been bad, per se, but I get tired of crisscrossing the map with morons after a while. Nobody is really thinking, nobody is really playing as a team yet. I just joined a new LS last night and was encouraged to see a couple of people chatting in /ls as they were running around learning how to use battle regimens. Those are the kinds of players I enjoy spending time in a group with because they were taking time to just bomb around and practice skills. That's good stuff. That inspires me to want to take part in the things they're doing.

Random groups, "LFP goat grinding blah blah blah"...no. Because I'm going to find a goat and I'm going to tag it and then all **** is going to break lose while people mash away until their stamina bars are empty. Goat is going to die, two people are going to run east, one will run west, the healer will run south, and I'll be wondering if I can drop party without anyone noticing.

I would imagine that a well organized and coordinated group could do some really fun stuff, get lots of skillups and have tons of fun killing mobs that solo folk just can't manage but if more time is spent just getting people on the same page than fighting, I'll take my chances solo. I can slap dodos all over eastern Thanalan and have a great time doing it by myself. I don't need 4 other people irritating me with the brainless style of play that's prevalent right now.

Let's not forget the time scale we're suppose to be playing this game for.
Would entirely kill any fun for me if for some reason by the end of the month 75% of players are maxed out.

This game is actually quicker than the previous MMO Square made and a lot easier to level in, so really it's not that bad. Also you are supposed to play this game for years so yeah it's designed to take a long time.

Yes to the last bit too.

This is something I'm starting to get my LS to experiment with...work on group dynamics with typical Tank/Heal/DPS configuration to play with the battle regime system and step away from constant leve-grinding to get people accustomed to playing and coordinating well in groups to aid in (hopefully) future group-based mission/quest content, as well as the speculated end-game group leve system.

I'm, kind of sadly, extremely excited to get my first non-leve focused group together in a central location to start working on this. Every group I've been in up to now has been mindless wandering and engaging with no thought or reason behind it.

I grouped with 5 or so people last night and did around 7 or 8 leves yesterday. I didn't even get close to leveling, and these were all (except for one or two) on Legion difficulty. I spent a lot of time healing, but even when I wasn't, the mobs were still dying relatively quickly and therefore I wasn't yielding much exp. But that was definitely a LOT more fun than solo grinding, for sure. :)

What is the battle regimen system? Sounds like a fun way to do things....

E: Also, complaining about leveling speed = original EQ wants to say hi.

Original EQ Ranger (Hydbrid) exp penalty takes slow levelling for 500

Certain points (5 level stages)in current eq progression take longer than
others because of mob availability and exp they provide

d&do is very slow if you solo and arent the optimal build, ie you arent a min maxer and less than 20 years old

lotro is just a grind, not hard just monotonous. bonus here is quest exp is good

ffxi you need a group, ffxiv so far im soloing and can envisage that being able to continue till 25. it wont be efficient

I'm constantly trying to put groups together and make some intelligent, coordinate, premeditated effort to actually kills mobs and level efficiently. Unfortunately, most people ignore you or prefer to solo, and the ones that do join are often too impatient or too horrible at the game to do anything worthwhile. Maybe they are playing with mittens on, I'm not sure...

I know the game is brand-new, but so many people running around like chickens with their heads cut-off, it's frustrating. I play MMO's for the socialization aspect as well, and I haven't found it yet. The game is bustling with activity and other players, but feels pretty **** lonely at times.

I think part of the problem is the hard-core contingent that has migrated over from FFXI (looking at you Rank 20+ people after the game has been out for a week) that seem to be sprinting to max level. Everyone can play the game how they choose, and the hardcore contingent chooses not to be bothered with inefficient disorganized parties. So these people seem to solo or group with LS mates and I can't blame them considering the alternatives right now.

I think another part of the problem is the newer generation of MMO players that embrace and enjoy solo play as their primary means of xp and leveling. SE had to make soloing a viable option to appease this crowd and this is what we get.

I joined one of the linkshells for my server that had posted their info here on ZAM. I met great folks and it led to quickly grouping up for leves and also people helping each other out with crafting components. I highly recommend you go to your server forum section here and see if there are any LSs that advertise themselves in a fashion that matches your play style.
