i pre-ordered the standard edition of FFXIV but i didn't get a code for the in-game item, is there a special thing to do to get it? or does anyone know if i just missed out on it?

There should have been a slip of paper in the case with the code printed on it. You may have been an unlucky one that didn't get it inserted.

Did you actually receive your game? It should be inside the case. At least it was that way for the CE version.

Check all the little papers in the front of your CD case. I know in the CE, each of the special codes was on a separate piece of paper inside the case.

Perhaps my own fault, but i found the instructions provided to be a bit vague and i was anxious to get in the game, so i just sat the paper aside, finished the install, and created my first toon. I then went back, Googled better instructions, entered the code, and began wondering how i was going to claim the item. Did some more reading and realized i will never receive the item unless i make a brand new character :(

Have you been able to log in and verify you dont have the goggles?

It seems odd that you say you only had 1 slip, to register the product, since my (CE) copy had the game registration on the back of the manual, not a separate slip.

The separate slip is what you use to register you game item. Make sure you register the item with your Square-Enix account "TO" the FFXIV service BEFORE you make your character.

Now wait a second. Are you sure that slip is for registering the product and isn't the Goggles code? Take a picture of it (with the code edited out) and post it.

Where did you buy it from?

Considering the items are untradeable, the lack of the in game mail system is not an issue in this case.

Does anyone else know what piece of paper this is then? That would really suck to miss out on the item. I am supposed to pick up my copy from EB Games today as well.

Is there a way to take back the game if you don't get the bonus? Maybe you could contact SE or something? I will be ****** if I get gypped too.

System generated mail *should* be able to circumvent things like non-tradeable status on items.

Don't hate me for throwing WoW out as an example, but Blizzard sends items such as these to your in-game mailbox. It doesn't matter if they are bound to your character or not since they aren't being traded b/t players. This is also how they return recovered items to you if you have been hacked.

"The Collectors and Standard edition of FFXIV come with different Promotional Codes. They include bonus services such as Onion Helm, Garlond Goggles, Asuran Armbands and in the future, Expansion Codes. They are entered in the same fashion as you enter your XIV registration code:

1. Click here to access your Square Enix Account Management Page.
2. Click Select Service from the menu on the left.
3. Select Final Fantasy XIV (note: there are currently two icons for this. Pick the one with the graphic on the right).
4. Click Add Service Account.
5. Add your Promotional Code.

Special thanks to Mikhalia for being my account setup guinea pig!"

This is from the zam sticky about setting up your account for the bonus items. RTFZAM manual

An even better example would be SE and FFXI doing the exact same thing. That's how the nomad bonanza winners got their rare/ex stuff, in the mail.

Not to mention, GMs in FFXI could trade ex items to players, etc. It's a very small restriction that SE easily has the power to circumvent if they see the need.

The system being able to get around the untradeable status does not mean that a player can. I understand that it would be nice if SE would use such a system to let you register a code at a later date, but the way I took the negative comment about the mail system not being in place was that he wanted to make a second dummy character and then send the item to the old one. My apologies if I misunderstood.

I didn't get a code for goggles either, but maybe that's because I preordered from gogamer.com and not amazon, gamestop, ect. Still, I got it for $39.99 and it came 2 days early.

What I'm wondering is, how do I claim my FFXIII item from when I registered that game?

You need to get the code it spat back out when you registered the code on the Members site, then put that into FFXIV square enix account management system just like the game key; again, before you make your character.

So with the way these codes work if you were to order the SE after already owning the CE then it would be possible to have both the helm and the goggles? Since the codes don't seem to be exclusive to a specific copy of the game.

So does the code come inside the game case itself, or does it get sent separately with the game? For example, are you supposed to get a flyer handed to you when picking up the game from the store or is it only found in specially packaged editions? I don't think I've seen a straight answer for that yet. I'm kind curious if they're separate, I may go to my local gamestop and see if they have extras lying around. O.O

Check your EB games receipt from when you purchased your game. GameStop (the company that bought EB games) has taken a new habit of printing their pre-order codes on the receipts.

could be worse, collectors edition people paid an extra 30$ to get a helmet that is ugly as sin and is equally useless. the goggles (on paper) seem to be by far the superior item of the 2, offering a much more useful trait and they look cool to boot. if only i werent so anxious to drop WoW i could have waited the extra week >.<

I just got my SE copy of the game about 2 hours ago from game stop. On the outside of the CD case, there's a circle sticker that showed an image of the goggle. Then inside the case, there are a user manual, with the account registration code on the back (20 digits), a little piece of page with the Product registration code (16 digits) and another piece of paper which some graphics showing it's the goggle's registration code (20 digits).

To register the goggle, you have to first Add a new service to your account with the registration code on the back of the manual. Then Add a new service again with the goggle code, then at the end link it to your Final Fantasy XIV service. If you have the FFXIII promotional code (you can get it from the main Square Enix member page > Feature > FFXIII > Bonus Code > scroll down to the middle of the page and there's a link to click and it'll show your code), then you have to do the same thing again and link it to your FFXIV service BEFORE you create your character.

If you can't find your code in the CD case or don't have the goggle sticker on the CD case, you should go back to the store and ask for it (or a refund).

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting the Square Enix Support Centre.

The code for the in-game item comes from the retailer you bought the game from not Square Enix and it should not have been in the box it should have been seperate from the game. Please contact the retailer.

I can already tell that this is going to **** a lot of people off.

It doesn't even matter if you preordered the SE at Gamestop... if your case doesn't have the Goggle sticker on it then you don't get the Goggle code.

I asked the manager at the local Gamestop today about it and he showed me the ones he got in... none had a sticker on them... and I asked how many of them were for non-preorders... he said, "None, these are all preorders".

I had already bought the CE and I picked up the SE from Walmart today thinking I could get the Goggle code and remake my characters so they would have the helm and the Goggles... so basically I wasted $50 on another copy.

I would even consider trading my SE register code for a Goggle code, but I am not sure how I could go about that with both parties not trusting one another. But I would not even consider it unless I got the Goggle code first and tried it out. Not even really sure if I could do that and trust the other person not calling up SE afterwards and saying that the Goggle code was in use... and then they would have my SE code and I might get the Goggles deleted from me...

This would only work if someone wanted to give FFXIV to a friend/spouse though... because having two FFXIV codes won't do you any good unless you wanted to dual box... but why...

Well, if that is the case then someone is lying somewhere.

I've known the Gamestop manager for a few years and he would have told me if he had any codes for the Goggles even if he couldn't give me any.

Hey folks,

I’m in a similar situation as Kusanagi7. I received my standard edition today, ordered from amazon.ca up here in Canada. Contrary to what dunlag describes, there is no goggle sticker on the outside of the DVD case. Inside, there is a French and English manual with a FFXIV registration code (20 digit) printed on the back of the English one. A product registration slip is also included; it has a serial code printed on it (16 digits) and instructs me to use that code to register my product on http://member.square-enix.com/na. No sign of a piece of paper with a goggle graphic and code.

It thus seems I missed out on the bonus goggles also.

I got my game from amazon, had the orange sticker on the front and inside was a 20 digit code for the goggles. Sounds like there was a shipment mistake, try contacting SE (good luck) and see if they can do anything about it.

Cause if you did preorder from the retailers on the site (bestbuy, amazon and game stop) and did not receive the item, you can always demand a refund cause its false advertising.

This is stupid. I don't want to sound like I'm just placing the blame on someone, but I'm ****** at how poorly organized this whole release has been. I find myself not as excited as I was a month ago so if I can't get the item I will probably just wait until the PS3 release. Or never.

You bought the CE for the helmet? It included a few other perks including getting to lvl 20 when others are just starting. Contrary to popular belief, the goggles alone will not catch them up but playing some OT could. :)

I agree, the onion helm is pretty useless and ugly too. I think we were cheaped out on that. The googles are much better and cooler looking.

I don't understand why we have to enter the code before making characters. I think that is failsauce. With other games like LOTRO and Warhammer, we just enter the code and we instantly get the item in the inventory on all characters we have or will create.

The first is the back of the manual, second is the Goggle insert, 3rd is product registration for SE Members. Sorry for crappy cell-phone pic!

Standard editions of FINAL FANTASY XIV purchased from specific retailers include one of the following special bonuses:

A code that can be redeemed for a limited in-game item, the Garlond Goggles, will be included in packages purchased from the following retailers:
- Best Buy
- Amazon
- Gamestop / EB Games

A limited Eorzea world map poster will be included in packages purchased from the following retailer:
- Walmart

For all of the above retailers, the limited bonuses will only be available for original launch quantities while supplies last. Each box that contains a bonus will have a sticker on it indicating which bonus is included.

Standard editions of FINAL FANTASY XIV purchased from retailers other than those specified above will not contain special bonuses.

---------------------------------------------

WTF... Things would have been different if SE release this information before launch instead of just vaguely showed "Standard Preorder Bonus - Garlond Goggles".
Now, after launch and it looks like SE do not wish to honor those players preordered from other gameshops?
Can I have my money back? (Game + Shipment + Tax)

This really ****** me off..
