Howdy,

I just purchased FFXIV today (Collectors edition) and I'm stuck on a crashing issue. When I hit the play button after login, the window goes black for a few seconds then gray (in windowed mode) and ultimately I get the dreaded "Final Fantasy XIV has stopped working" dialog.

Some info:
- Windows 7 Pro 32bit(just upgraded today)
- Fujitsu Lifebook T5010
- DirectX 11
- Graphics driver Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Event log is giving me the following:

Faulting application name: ffxivgame.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ca10e11
Faulting module name: msvcrt.dll, version: 7.0.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bda6f

I can find a few posts around the place with people with a similar problem and graphics drivers but none of them have any solutions.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot for any help

Hi,

It sounds like you have an integrated video chipset. You'll need discrete graphics to run FFXIV. Take a look at the minimum requirements.

First:

Disable Windows 7 sleepmode
Disable Windows 7 program execution authorization or set it to never ask for FFXIV.

Then try:

- Open the ffxiv config
- Set a modest resolution
- Disable full screen
- Set to window mode.

Ugh, i really hope it's not as simple as this... I'm not really up to date with graphics specs and didnt realise that I might not meet the minimum requirements (the others are fine). I'm really not fond of laying down a couple of grand for a new computer that I wont use for anything else.

OK, I tried these things and have the same end result although now the black background lasts about 8-10 seconds instead of only 1-2 so perhaps it's progressed?

I noticed that some the other people with this problem were able to fix it by changing thier 3d graphics settings (e.g. with Nvidia) but I'm not sure how to do it or if it is even possible with my graphics card.

Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot for the replies so far.

Okay

Next step

-Update graphics card drivers to current or use beta drivers from NVidia if available at the website.
-Open display control
-Set the slider all the way to performance as opposed to Quality.

Additionally try:
-open control panel go to devices/hardware
-disable sound devices (not uninstall.)

Too weak. You're not going to run FFXIV with an Intel integrated video chip.

We had the same issue, so I will tell you what worked for us. After HOURS of me searching for solutions... My husband had our computers search for and install a graphics card update. That's it.

I realize that others have had the same issue, but required more a more complex fix. I hope that the simplest fix possible works for you, and hope to see you playing really soon!

I'm having the same issue as well. I ran the beta with no issues.

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 32-Bit
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5400+ 2.8GHz
2GB RAM
DirectX 9
ATI Radeon HD 4550

Crashes immediately upon launch.

This GPU is pathetically underpowered. You need a dedicated graphics card just for starters. ****, just a couple years ago people were having trouble running FF11 on an integrated graphics card in their desktop.

Is it an atiumdag.dll crash issue?

I'm thinking its just code that isn't optimized. I am also using older beta drivers right
now and those seem to work best with SLI

i'm sure amd/nvidia will be coming out with new drivers soon

I have the beta version installed when I installed the retail version. According to this, it can cause problems. So, I'm going to uninstall the beta and reinstall the retail version and see if that helps.

Does the beta still run? Does the benchmark run at all (past the config screen)?

Check the event viewer to see the details of the crash. Hit the windows key and type 'event viewer' to get to it. The FFXIV error should be under Custom Views > Administrative Events. It's probably somewhere else but that's the easiest place to find it IMO.

When you find the ffxivboot.exe (or some other ffxiv executable) crash log, just copy the text in the crash log at the bottom and paste it here. If it just happened, it should be at the very top of the list.

You mentioned in your OP DX11. The game still using DX9c. Have you updated to the most recent version of DX9?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/resultsForProduct.aspx?displaylang=en&productID=9C954C37-1ED1-4846-8A7D-85FC422D1388

I would suggest uninstalling your graphics drivers. Then updating your DX. Then reinstall your graphics again.

The OP isn't me. I just kind of hijacked the thread because I didn't want to add another crash issue thread on the main page.

Wow, that's all that's in that description box? Mine looked like this:

Quote:
Faulting application name: ffxivboot.exe, version: 0.9.1.0, time stamp: 0x4c89d318
Faulting module name: atiumdag.dll, version: 8.14.10.716, time stamp: 0x4b2aa917

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atiumdag.dll
Report Id: eec049b2-c217-11df-820f-1c4bd6104854

From what it looks like though, it's not a driver issue...

That graphics chipset does NOT work with this game.

I burned mine out trying and had to get a new laptop.

My best advice is don't try. I don't think anyone on this forum has gotten the INtel(R) mobile Chipset 4 series to work with this game. I tried on a dual core 2.3GHz machine with 8GB of DDR2 RAM and it ran the benchmark for about .5 seconds before burning out permanently.
