Maybe they're listening to SE about not bringing any news/attention to the game yet. Maybe they don't really think the game's important enough to mention?

Thoughts?

They're still trying to figure out how to forward the ports on their routers to get the patch installed.

The complete lack of advertising for the game caused them to forget that it released today?

It was advertised here on TV, and in the store. Nothing compared to a mainstream game, but I saw a bunch here. Buffalo NY

This game had just about as much advertisement as any other MMO sans WoW.

Maple Story had more advertising than FFXIV, and that's a free-to-play MMO. I agree that many other MMOs have gone down this road as well, but what I'm saying is that it's a horrible idea to not advertise, even if you're not the only one.

Interesting. I've yet to hear of any sort of US based ad campaign, especially odd considering how much advertising FFXIII got. If you've seen the ad on TV but few others have, that's just a dead giveaway of bad marketing.

Yea I have seen it for certain a couple times. I go between cartoon network, scifi mostly. WAAAAIT a minute. Maybe..just maybe I am getting myself confused with a video on this site. I remember some site had a video advertisement I would hover over by accident every now and then. Maybe its that.

I guess that's possible. That would be an odd mixup to say the least. ._.

Both Game Informer and PC Gamer completely neglected to say anything at all about FFXIV. It wasn't even in the upcoming release section of PC Gamer. They listed things like WoW's expansion (even though it dosen't have a release date...) but not a word on XIV. I did see a two-page ad for FFXIV in the last issue though.

PC gamer had FFXIV on the cover a couple of months back...

sorry, it was Nvision: http://ffxivwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ffxivmalehyurmag.jpg

To be fair, I've known about PC Gamer for a long time, but this is the first time I've ever heard of Nvision. It probably made the magazine because SE has a deal with nVidia (they're advertised in the benchmark) and this is likely some form of quid pro quo.

Considering they were saying this game is aimed at casual gamers it's kinda funny how even the update system is horrible. Messing around with router settings is never something most people are going to want to do and given their target audience we shouldnt have to, nothing like this was needed in FFXI.

As for OP, honestly I think game sites and magazines like to be given a certain amount of communication etc. I'm guessing Square pretty much ignore them and so they snub the game, seems to be how Square would operate anyway.

Square never really cared about advertising or communicating with games press or anyone else for that matter. They are pretty arrogant really but people still buy them regardless so I guess they have every right to be. They arent upto blizzard standards but they do well enough to their own standards to not care.
