What has XIV cost you IRLFollow

*EDIT* This thread is not for PC upgrades or the cost of the software or service, I appologize I didn't label it correctly
I know it's only been a few days at most for the majority of folks, but I'm curious.

Here's my brief list

A pair of Ugg boots - A kind of peace gift (aka bargaining chip) for my Wife ("do you really need a whole day for gaming?" Can now be replied to with "Did you really need $200 boots that payless sells imitations of for $25")

This weekend, I wasn't thinking I'd get a full gaming day as our deal is only 1 guaranteed nerd out session every other weekend. The every other weekend in between is a nice day out and about if the weather permits. This was not the weekend for a nerd day. Any way she was talking about some swap meet type dealy for this weekend, of course I said "have fun honey". I'm almost scared to see what she brings home ^.^ Last time it was random foods that we never ate... almost $100 worth of random "treats".

I'm going to safely estimate $300 in 2 weekends worth of game time ^.^

So what's it costing you to play? (I know some folks have been eating up vacation time or sick leave as another example)

If only it were that easy. In a family of 6, FFXIV is the lowest possible priority - and simultaneously what I want to be doing most.

*Sigh*

I was hoping that PC costs wouldn't factor into this thread, I guess I should have clarified, though I did miss that thread you linked to :( IMO an Upgraded PC, while possibly the result of this game in the timing of the purchase, is ultimately a recurring nessecity and thus can't be blamed on the game.

other than money, cost me minus 2 hours of my normal sleeping pattern, and lots of time thinking what to craft, how to craft, etc during RL tasks...

I hear ya, I'm in a family of 5 with my youngest daughter being only 4 months old. I can't even think about gaming until after the kids are sleeping. Then my wife wants some "us time" Which I'm more than fine with. Happy wife = happy life and all that good nonsense.
So by the time that's over it's 11-12pm. maybe I can squeeze in an hour or two of gaming. Just one more roadblock for me, I have to wait till March for the PS3 release. :(

Back to the topic, FFXIV is one of the 2 reasons I even have a PS3. I got it in March hoping that the promised 2010 release would hold true. I wanted a Blu-ray player too so it was a nice 2-for-1. So I don't even have the game yet and it's cost me $300.

Well... since I bought and built a new rig, new screen, new peripherals, the CE version, I'd say...

My right kidney, my first and third born sons and my rights to Prima Nocta.

Gods, I hope it was worth it.

You should have done anything other than this.

Those things are an abomination, and should be banned.

~$700 dollars in computer upgrades/repairs.
$75 for the game

and they hurt my manly feelings. All one of them.(Points for those who get the reference.)
#11Dyna, Posted: Sep 30 2010 at 3:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So far FFXIV has cost money that I needed for a downpayment on my mothers heart surgury. My dog passed away due to a lack of food and water. I've lost 30Lbs and developed a gapping sore on my lower back. I've dropped out of college, lost my job and my girlfriend -_-. People say I look like a meth addic when I do break away from the game.

a couple hours of sleep a night. my 'me-time' comes after my daughter goes to sleep so for me to get anything done means i sacrifice an extra hour or 2 of sleep to game in peace.

Honest costs then?

FFXIV has cost me all my interest for FFXI. I look at the game and I just don't have the urge to play it. In fact, due to how casual FFXIV is, I've actually been playing my other games more, and enjoying some more 'me' time that isn't me going "Man I'm falling behind on my Magian Trial."

So... maybe FFXIV cost me an unhealthy obsession.

It cost me my wow addiction and might end up costing me my MMO addition I find myself logging in less and less each day even though I have only been playin a week. I will be cool with this game working out for me or not tho : )

$68.53 for CE.
#20 Sep 30 2010 at 8:05 PM Rating: Good
~70 for the CE, I replaced basically all the guts of my computer for around ~500 and had to buy a new OS for ~200, which was *(&$+**^#@ lame. Couldn't find my old OS disk for anything. No update version, nobody I knew could get me it. Had to fork out.

So around ~$770 for a game I currently have no interest in playing. I'm ever so slightly disappointed.

But hey ~$700 of that will come in handy at some point in the future, I can basically get any game out today.

If I wanted to.

So far it has cost me Leave, sleep, Approx. $150 in gaming fuel (beer & pizza),and probably no *** for the next couple weeks at minimum for ignoring the girlfriend since last Wednesday...

It was worth it Smiley: grin

Sadly tomorrow and Sat must be devoted to regaining the bedroom rights. I'd like to try and shorten those two weeks even a little bit if possible.

For me? It's cost me maybe about 250 bucks I'd estimate... A new graphics card, a new fan FOR the graphics card, and the CE edition. That and maybe a little sleep... But for what it's worth, I've found myself spending more time lurking the forums usually then actually in-game. I enjoy it, much easier to get what I want done too. But I'm not ready to devote myself to nothing but gaming again.

LOL I agree, but since moving to the UK she decided she just had to have them. We got them while back home in the states so it wasn't as expensive as it would have been here, but still... I'm sure the Aussies who marketed their "crap" footwear as a must have fashion item to the rest of the world are laughing all the way to the bank (kinda like the brewers of Fosters).
