as the saying goes, if you build it, they will come, or in the case of FF14, if you dont build it, the players will get together and build it themselves.

enter http://www.ffxivpro.com/. it's a player-generated searchable site, broken down by server, that effectively serves as a database of goods and services being offered or asked for. you link it to your official player profile and and can list goods you sell or are seeking, and for what prices, as well as search other goods, players, and services on your server. it even has messaging support that you can link into an e-mail, so people can more easily notify you if they cant find you in game.

the more people that use it, the stronger it gets, and the stronger it gets, the easier it is to find what you need. in this, the infancy of an economy, its a rather invaluable tool. so check it out, and if you like what you see, spread the word.

Thanks!

I been after a site like this for price comparisons. I always have the same old stuff to sell and never know what price to chuck them. Most people NPC them but I am sure I can sell for more.

I was about to make a thread to recommend this website too, saw it yesterday. Very good concept with simple user interface, but will only work if it gets more exposure + more users. /support

I tried your site but it wont let me register. the stupid code you have to type in keeps saying its wrong when its totally not... so its impossible to sign up. fix that and maybe you will get more members to join.

well, #1, its not *my* site per se, i just use it, and am spreading the word so more will use it.

#2, what exactly is your problem with registering? all you need to do after you register your char name (i.e. enter a character name after you make your login) is to copy the code it gives you into the biography portion of your official character sheet, found here:

http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/index.html

under character, then character profile settings on the right, then click on edit and past the code into the biography line.

and there you go, youre registered.

How is that WAYYYY better?

It has practically zero database. As of right now, no one is using it.

The OP's site works better for me.

Probably never. It's not 3rd party software, it's a website.

if they considered that OP website as cheating/exploiting, then they may as well shut down alla and every other fan-based database while theyre at it. you could almost as easily re-create whats happening at ffxivpro using the wiki here at alla and dividing it up by servers.

all ffxivpro does is provide a centralized area thats easy to access and use. if SE implements a better means of retainer searching or even a true auction house, then the need for this site will be eliminated. but until then, the players will make do.

i....cant help you there. ive never had a problem with any captcha inputs, so aside from telling you to do stuff im sure you already do, i wouldnt be able to provide any help.

Since it appears to be the people behined FFXI AH (or at least linked to them) it'll prob end up being the most widely used AH site and would be good to get the word out.

Also wtf at the exploit comment, seriously after reading some comments over the past few days ffxiv shoulda had an IQ test or something during sign up. Unless im been whoosed...

I only whoose those that enjoy a good whoosing. I thought it was in good humor to add that comment because SE axed the work around to a windowed full screen (which is just as silly). I wasn't trying to imply that I would be reporting said website.

This is totally awesome. And the conspiracy theorist in me worries that SE will try to shut it down.

They wont try to shut it down, seeing as they never tried to shut ffxiah down, its exactly the same concept.

Or if they did try to shut it down they never succeded.

You're referring to the XIV windower? That was going to be much more than a way to fullscreen window the game.

I'm just glad that Aikar released a "Windower" also that does nothing more than reposition a windowed mode set to your max resolution so the borders are off screen. Works beautifully, and doesn't do anything but reposition the window.

So after all this is done, is this supposed to 'scrape' everything I'm selling off myself and my retainer, or do you then have to 'manually' go add things you are trying to sell to this site?

This doesn't appear to be anything like FFXIAH except in spirit. It requires the sellers to log in and post every item they want to sell, as well as log back in and take it down once it sells. Getting a lot of people to do that is a lofty goal, and I can't see it catching on.

It is basically just a forum to post when you have items for sale. Likely it will be like Rolanberry Fields - only used for those few high end items. For medium to low price items, it won't be worth the trouble in most people's eyes.

Guess it all depends on how much data they can gather from the servers. If it would be working just like FFXIAH, it would be lovely indeed. Loved that site back then, it also was lovely that I didn't even have to register, I linked my FFXIV chara just a few days before (not knowing about FFXIVPRO yet). But yea, so far you can't even confirm that your chara is really yours, and you have to manually enter what you're selling (or so it seems).

I guess, given enough time, it will work just as FFXIAH does. That's what I hope at least, because even with the upcoming change to retainers the system isn't exactly perfect and clear. Either way, happy that there's something out there already from the same person making FFXIAH. Thanks for directing us to that place!

good stuff there =)

whats worrying though is that there's something fundamentally wrong with the game if players have to do this.

Maybe, but FFXIAH was great and there wasn't anything wrong with FFXI. Of course, that site was great because the site worked without relying on the players to manually update the items on the site.

players having to leave game and find items to buy using 3rd party sites, is a sign that things arent good.
