I got my pre-order the other day, but i can only see two codes in the box.

1. For the game itself, the "CD key" if you will.

2. For registering the game on Square-Enix members.

I registered both codes, but have no goggles when i start the game.
Can anyone confirm that there is supposed to be a third paper with a special code for the goggles?

There was an extra one for the Onion Helm. You didn't get scammed. Call Customer Service.

Yes, there should have been a slip with the garland goggles code. It has a yellow header and a big picture on it. Where did you get your game from? And did it have an orange sticker on the outer packaging that says "LIMITED IN-GAME ITEM" with a picture of the goggles on it?

Onion helmet is a collector's edition item only. Standard do not get this.

Ah ok.

I bought the game online, and the website said it was a preorder and would include the goggles... I contacted them, and am waiting for their reply.

Thanks for the info, at least now i know where the problem lies.

I'd assume the goggles would follow the same procedure.

Ugh, are you saying there's supposed to be 3 codes in with the standard edition in order to get the goggles?

I see two codes... One on the back of the manual and the other is on a small red slip.. Haven't tried registering yet, was going to wait a bit for the game to get more stable.

Yes, I believe we should have three codes with a pre-order of the standard edition.

One 20 digit code for FFXIV. (back of the manual)
One 16 digit code for registering the game on the members' site. (little red slip)
One 20 digit code for the Garlond Goggles in-game item.

I am in the same boat as the OP. I have the FFXIV 20 digit code and the 16 digit one but there is no sign of the goggle code outside or in the game package. I pre-ordered my copy from amazon.ca back in August which, in my opinion, qualitfies me for the bonus item. I contacted both Square Enix and Amazon.ca. Waiting on their replies. Hopefully this can get sorted out!

Has any attempted to register the 16 digit code on their SE Members page?

If I remember, it may be the same with the special order FF13 item. Think you had to register the "special item" code there and it kicked out a 20-digit code to register for FF14's item.

Been awhile...

I have, it just changes the 16-digit for the 20-digit and tells you that you can use it for FFXIV.

I will try that when I get home tonight. However, dunlag mentions here that a piece of paper showing the goggles with a 20 digit code is included in the pre-order standard edition package. So I am not very hopeful!

You will have to delete and re-create any character you want to have the item after you register the code.

The item will not be given to an already created character.

Just as a follow up - I registered the 16 digit code on the members' website (http://member.square-enix.com/na/). The only thing it did is give me 50 points towards my gamer profile on there. Pure rubbish.

Anyway, the only code I have left is the 20 digit one for FFXIV itself. I have not yet created a character nor heard from SE or Amazon regarding the goggles. At this point, I'm thinking of going ahead with the character creation process and forgetting about the goggles. I'm disappointed in this false advertisement but alas, I did not get this game for a pair of sun glasses. Guess I'll just move on and 'take the hit' on this one.

From all the posts on this i've read, it seems to be mostly, if not all, Canadians having the issue. Only thing I can think of is square didn't make enough of the pre-sell version for codes. Or maybe those who didn't pre-order early enough. Yes I know some who ordered way back when didn't get it, but maybe they were given the wrong box. In fact maybe that's what happened in general. Stores didn't know the difference somehow and we end up like this. Not saying this is any excuse, but just some thoughts on it.

Regarding the Standard Edition pre-orders and the Garlond Goggles in Canada:

Alright, theres no info about this anywhere, so for all those confused listen carefully.

Each pre-order comes with a sticker on the outside sayings its a pre-order. If your copy does not have this sticker then you are most likely having some issues figuring out how to get your Garlond Goggles. You are also most likely Canadian.

On the inside there will be:
- The book (or books English/French if you live in Canada).
- One black and red slip with a "Serial Code" for registering the game with your square enix members account (THIS CODE DOES NOT RELATE TO THE GAME OR GOGGLES IN ANY WAY) (This code just gives you 50 member points and shows that you have purchased this game in your member account).
-One Yellow, Black and White slip containing a picture of the Garlond Goggles and a promo registration code.

So to recap, you should have:
- One 20 digit Registration Key (back of manual)
- One 16 digit "Serial Code"
- One 20 digit Promo Code (Garlond Goggles Slip)

Now to answer the big question:

"Why do I only have two codes and where are my Garlond Goggles!?"

Answer:
They F*cked up. I dont believe they are intentionally ******** Canadian customers.
I have spoken with EB games (which is gamestop in Canada) and they are still waiting to hear back from SE. As it stands it seems all copies they received do not include the pre-order bonus. Yes, thats right, if you are canadian, you did NOT recieve the Promo item.

But do not despair.

As SE advertised here:
http://na.square-enix.com/newsletter/ff14_100706/
They offered pre-orders with the special in-game items at "participating retailers" in canada, which are Best Buy, Amazon and EB Games (Gamestop).
When you click the "Preorder now" button it takes you to http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/order/

As you can see, they display American and Canadian flags, which are links to the canadian and american versions of the stores mentioned earlier.

As the saying goes "You get what you pay for" and i dont believe SE would risk false-advertising claims. EB is still waiting to hear back from SE so you will want to check back in with your retailer until they find out how to remedy the situation.
Unfortunately you will be unable to actually play the game as if you create a character before you register the promo code you will not be able to receive the item.
Unless of course, SE decides to somehow retroactively supply Garlond Goggles to players... which is unlikely.
My suggestion to all Canadian players who pre-ordered; Decide if you really want the goggles that badly, if so, As painful as it may be, dont play the game until SE supplies your retailer with promo codes for its customers.

With this in mind I will check out Best Buy again tomorrow and ask if they have any promo codes for the game. I'll report back my findings.

Then again, I didn't preorder from them. I preordered from EBGames so they might not even give it to me.

Update October 2nd:
Contacted EB for the millionth time.
They are still waiting to receive word from SE.
Store manager mentioned they probably wont know anything until monday, when they receive a new shipment of FFXIV's.

They may have received only the regular, non-preorder versions of the game.

This issue has been brought up already in a past post. One thing to note is that, in one of the previous topics, the OP had mentioned that they ended up getting the codes late... in another case, and EB/Gamestop likes to do this sometimes, the code was actually printed on the purchase receipt for your pre-order. Now i'm not saying this will be fact, just saying maybe check your reciepts.

I apologize for bringing this topic back from the dead. Over the weekend, I heard back from both SE and Amazon.ca.

First, SE replied saying that the Garlong Goggles code should be included in packages purchased from Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop or EB Games. There is, however, nothing SE can do. They conclude by saying:

If you have purchased a Standard edition of FINAL FANTASY XIV from a participating retailer (indicated by the presence of the sticker), and you are missing whatever exclusive may have been provided, then please return to the place of purchase for an exchange, as this issue is a packaging malfunction that is covered by the retailer. Unfortunately the SQUARE ENIX Support Center cannot assist with package malfunctions, nor can it replace lost bonus items.

So back to Amazon then. They replied to my initial inquiry asking me to please check in the package again to make sure. I replied telling them that the code is definitely not included. Long story short, this morning I received another email from Amazon saying that they need more time to investigate and will get back to me in 4-5 days. And the plot thickens!

Anyway, just more waiting. In the mean time, I have not yet created my character but on the flip side, the server I want to join is never available..

What likely happened is an employee stole the code for some reason or another and used a machine to wrap the package again. Wouldn't be the first time it's happened in the MMO community, seeing as CE pet code keys in WoW sell to morons for 100-300 dollars or more later down the road.

unfortunately uuryu, these codes can only be applied before character creation or they are worthless.

This is not a "package malfunction" as it is not a singular case. This is Everyone In Canada. The problem is they neglected to send canadian retailers the pre-order versions of the game. Even though they claimed we would get the pre-order items.
