I just saw the following ad on the Intarweb:

Quote:
cheap ff14 gil help u win the world $39.99 for 100,000gil

Obviously I removed the URL.

It seems you can win the world already for 100,000 gil. LOL

I witnessed people shouting FFXIV gil selling websites in open beta... hilarious.

They spam such messages even if they don't have anything for FFXIV.. it's just for bringing people into MMORPGs to their website..

Gil comes so easy in this game, comparative to XI. Can go mining, fill up my inventory, take it to any NPC with a sell option and make 60k. The sooner people realize this, then better off we'll all be.

That will only result in inflation via more gil entering the economy. Any item not sold by an NPC will still maintain a relative value. The only difference is that people will be buying 1 million gil for 39.99 rather than 100k and the sword they want to purchase will cost 100k instead of 10k...

lol 100k gil...

I've seen items on vendors that sell for 200k+ gil... I believe it was an Iron War Axe... 100k gil does not seem to be enough for me to win the world...

Or plan your time to include the necessary crafts to make that sword or armor your pining for. The only people who will buy gil are the extremely lame and lazy. This is a very craft heavy game. I've ~251k gil, and nothing to spend it on.

Now cluster, crystal and shard sellers... I can see a black market for that. I never seem to have enough of those.

And I only ever see people selling crystals I don't need.

This will likely change; levequest rewards as well. At the moment, SE is getting gil pumped into the economy to get it started up. They did the same thing in XI; in the first months after the initial Japanese release, beastmen dropped several times the gil they do now. Look to see all this get adjusted when SE reaches their target for gil in circulation.

Edit add: Also, as others have noticed, the Eorzea gil seems to be worth considerably less than the Vana'diel gil. Based on the NPC prices I've seen, it seems to be about ten FFXIV gil to one FFXI gil.

Start high and drop prices until you hit a steady rate of customer purchases - that is what they are doing. They have to start somewhere and high is always going to be where.

Give it a few weeks and it will even out at 9.99 per 100k.

Last night I spent about 2 hours just accumulating enough materials to make a Rank 14 Cotton Doublet Vest. It cost me nearly 90k in materials alone without any breaks. I am keeping this initial one, but future ones that I produce will be selling for a minimum 120k+

That's just for a Rank 14 armor. I earn & spend almost 250k a day already. For the time being, the gil is very inflated.
