Hate to make a whinging thread but this has just been grating on my nerves so badly over the past few weeks, with this server in particular seemingly locked the most out of any server. Despite organising 39 people months prior to the release of FFXI to all go on the same server, it seems our luck was cursed when we picked to go onto Figaro - because as of now only 15 people have managed to even get in, all of them being collectors edition players (including myself, but it took me 3 days of checking everyday).
Now I'm just about ready to throw in the towel on this stupid server because of this damned locking business >.< I know it doesn't make a bit of difference but I want to know why this damned server is so popular. Is the fact that it was a cool city in FFVI really why so many people are on it? Is it because its one of the servers thats been around since the start? Why are other servers like that (say 'Besaid' - the unofficial RP server or 'Gyshal' - the unofficial oceanic server) so often open when Figaro isn't?
Gah. I'm just ranting but this server issue has severely impacted upon my enjoyment of this game, and I've had absolutely 0 motivation to play, when I don't know if I'll be changing server or what. The 15 or so people who did make it on now don't want to leave because they've been leveling and just.. gah. I've had the game active since the 26th and I'm level 5.
Again; no point in this, I just wanted to rant and find out if anyone else has been having the same frustrations with me about this :|. I really, really, really miss FFXI's server-pick method. As well as really, really, really hating FFVI right now. (._.)

Tell me about it.
My husband bought the CE and has been playing for a week, along with several of our old LS mates from FFXI. I get my copy yesterday and try to get on.... not even in the list. I've been checking about every 20 minutes (except from midnight until 4 am when I actually slept, lol) with no luck so far.
So I sent SE an email asking if the server would be opening back up at all, if there was a list somewhere posted publicly of which servers were locked and if there was any way to get on Figaro and they sent me this:
Which didn't actually answer any of my questions. *sigh*
I won't be playing on another server, I have no reason to if none of my LS friends nor my husband will be there. I don't mind waiting a few days if there is a good chance I will get in, but if there is NO chance of getting to be on the same server as my LS I won't waste my time. I'm trying really hard to not QQ about it, but my husband is more than a little miffed and I'd be lying if I said i wasn't terribly disappointed.

This same thing happened during the CE head start, someone on another forum posted that he had emailed Sqaure and he got the EXACT SAME RESPONSE you got, about how the server already reached it's max population. So what happened? Figaro opened up for character creation less than 24 hours after his e-mail. I'm pretty sure that is the standard copy/paste response their support team gives out, maybe to dissuade people from trying to wait for their server to open up. If I were you I would definitely wait it out since you don't want to go to any other server. Hopefully it doesn't stay locked for long. I would keep in mind it could be a few days before it re-opens, like last time. :(

You are so right. I just got in! :-) When the list came up ALL servers were up, which kind of surprised me. Might have been a fluke but I didn't wait around to ponder that possibility, I selected Figaro as fast as my little fingers could click and got myself in game.
Just after I made this the server came back up haha... I think SE is listening! I told as many of the people who aren't in the server yet to gogogo so hopefully they make it in. Hope it stays open all day! (and people without legitimate reasons to go there to not go there please ;;)
The servers appear to be temporarily locking due to population overflow. If you can't get in try waiting half an hour and checking again.
