Does it matter in the long run?

I want to level a Conj and Weaver but the guilds of each of those are in different cities. Is this going to have an impact on me in any way? I don't mind having to travel between the two (or teleporting) Just wondering before I created my character.

that doesn't matter. starting city matters when it comes down to which story quest ark you want to follow. You can only follow the story of the city you choose to start in.

I think it doesn't matter, since the cities are connected. Also I started with the pugilist guild in my first town but I was not having any advantages! I just say this based on my beta experience. I don't if the full game's guilds, grant advantages to you.

you quickly gain access to the other cities through the teleport system so even if its necessary to visit a guild somewhere else your able to fairly easily.

This one time at FFXIV camp I tried to get a 3 person party going, but just ended up as a Disciple of the Hand.

I agree, though it might be best to pick a city that houses guilds for professions you plan to focus on. Ul'dah is a nice, central location, though personally I don't like the landscape much. The city set up is very nice though I think most would agree. Gridania is probably the least populated, mostly I think due to the corridor style zone layouts. Limsa Lominsa is a good place and probably the highest populated. The city set up is pretty decent, but most of all, it's where you'll find the highest drop of wind and lightning crystals, the two kinds every crafter is always short on. If you're a crafter, you're going to spend a chunk of your time here anyway farming crystals, and if you're a hack and slasher, it's a great place to make cash off of crafters, and occasionally pick up a nice, expensive item that someone is willing to trade for a big stack of shards (got bronze knuckles this way in beta).

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter, as you'll probably spend time travelling between all three. If your play time is very limited, I would pick the one that has the most guilds for the jobs you're focusing on, because you won't have much time to travel, though conversely, you should have a good amount of anima if you're smart about it, so maybe you can teleport around every couple of days instead.

Myself... I chose Gridania:
-Lancer Guild, and I'm a Lancer Main
-Leatherworker Guild, my main craft
-Good looking scenery and peaceful music (though gets too dark at night with rain)
-Least populated, so less competition for camps

To each their own, in this sense, you can be successful no matter what you choose.
