Players On Windows 7?Follow

I have it installed on my laptop with windows 7. The laptop is not even 2 months old and it just keeps crashing the game even before it opens. I know there are issues reported with windows 7 but obviously some players must be playing using windows 7? Is there anything out there about making it able to work?

if its a new laptop, easiest solution is reformat it. if thats not feasible, update all drivers. Also just because its "new" doesnt mean its capable of playing Final Craftasy XIV.

As far as I'm aware windows 7 doesn't have any specific problems tied to it. The only one I have seen is where somehow the compatibiity mode kicks in and you have to turn it off. Usually if it crashes before it opens your specs aren't high enough to get it to run.

Try updating your graphics driver.. though if I were to take a guess I'd guess your laptop is relatively low end and isnt capable of running final craftasy 14.

Unfortunately, new doesn't necessarily = good enough to run XIV. :-(

You could try to boot it up at bare minimum settings:

Go Start Menu --> Square Enix --> FFXIV Config

Under General Options, turn everything all the way down, apply changes / save changes, then try to reboot.

Make sure you are right clicking the XIV icon from desktop and "Run as Administrator"

EDIT: *** don't get too discouraged, my brand new gaming rig couldn't run benchmark either with factory / default settings and drivers, but it absolutely scorches the game after some tweaks ***

In your other thread you said you installed a new graphics card, did you install new drivers with it or just try to run it without installing any new software? I looked at the PC you mentioned "HP Pavilion a6700y"? and from a quick glance I really don't that is gonna run the game well at all..looks like a really cheap PC.

You also said money is no object...well if thats the case someone link to a really good PC that can run it off the shelf lol

I think it might help if you install the DirectX SDK - (June 2010) drivers from the microsoft website. I have windows 7 and an ati radeon 5700 series graphics card and the benchmark wouldn't run until I installed the drivers. I was also able to install the game without too much trouble and have been playing it since the ce edition was released. The only thing is sometimes the window crashes saying something about the direct x driver. :/ Hopefully it works! Good luck! :)

@ preludes I have 3 different pcs and I never said I bought a new graphics card. I'm trying this on my laptop now with windows 7 64 bit. You are talking about my 2 year old desktop that is running windows vista 64 bit & yes I will probably go out and buy a better pc for gaming if I can get some good links :)

and thank you rozee am downloading that pack now. I just did a lot of update drivers for my laptop I bought on august 22nd 2010. I know just cause it's new it's not made to fun FF14 but I hope all the updates help. If not I will just have to go out and buy a pc for gaming.

most games still require dx9 and windows 7 doesn't come with it installed, ff14 should run fine after you install that.
that's the only issue i've ever had with win7 myself.

There are Windows 7 Laptops (and sadly even PCs) running Intel GPUs. Avoid Intel GPUs at all cost, unless you're only going to run DOSBox. You possibly have one of these Laptops.

Even worse you may be one of the many suckered into thinking you purchased a Gaming Laptop by taking old hardware and forcing it to run Windows 7 and then saying it's certified for 7...

Until recently Laptops were a bad choice for dedicated Gaming as the GPU drivers were separate than the Desktop ones. I think both ATI... er AMD and Nvidia both use the same drivers now ensuring more compatibility. Intel just doesn't have the skill yet for a gaming GPU.

What I am doing is just canceling service until I find a pc I know for sure that will run this. No I'm not gonna be a troll and blame SE for it cause it's not their fault. I just need a better pc to run this type of game.
