Could it be that the game isn't selling quite as well as expected? Could early reviews and impressions have scared off potential players?

I was surprised that when it released, it didn't seem any busier than it had been before. In fact, it seemed to be a little quieter than usual actually.

It's nothing to be concerned about. Amazon does this pretty much every game on the market (with some exceptions).

Agree with this... I was expecting some massive rush on the 30th, but there were way less people on at peak.

I'm surprised they don't just give it away. Its not like they make all their money on the boxed copy....

I disagree. I highly doubt the average length of subscription per box purchaser will be higher than 3 months given current public reaction, in which case box:subscription revenues would be 50:50.

Well 1 of the reason of not having any new peeps is probably due to server limitations/cap (-_-lll

For some people its a jump into FFXIV to play with their friends. End up, server cap.

So of my LS mates waited for days to get into Gysahl. And they got the collector edition....

Imagine the standard edition. So guys probably got frustrated and total given up.

I actually anticipated that the CE release would be higher than the SE release. Most people seemed willing to pay extra for the early access and a few "bonuses". Thats pretty much how it looked for me today, but then again i'm on a server thats spent most of the last 48 hours closed off to new players, I think I've seen 1 pair of goggles.

I disagree about server pop not being busy. I have never had a queue on my server, not even on opening day. I did yesterday, though.

That's because we can actually make it to other camps without being surprise-violated by some god-mode raptor, wolf, or other evil animal.

Yes, I just walked by one 20 minutes ago. As long as you don't walk up to it, it doesn't do anything. They're nice giant ugly lizard things, until you poke them.

Yep, just walk around it, it just has a "10 feet rule." If you get within 10 feet of it, it eats you. ^^

I had that rule once too, then I visited a farm.... Now it's strictly a cooked food only rule. Sometimes, when I'm visiting friends in Pennsylvania cows still see me and run. You'd think they all talk or something.

SE kinda shot themselves in the foot here... repeatedly. They might not have done better by releasing the regular and collector's at the same time, but they certainly wouldn't have done any worse.

Out of 43 Japanese reviewers the game got 3 five star reviews and 36 one star reviews. Not good. Very not good.

Unless I'm missing something I don't see the price decrease. I see a 39.99 but that's not actually from Amazon, that's from some other Merchant.

I clicked the link.. Appears to be back up to $47.99

That's a relief.. I bought two copies of the game for $50 a piece (no tax or shipping). I've installed it but haven't registered/signed up to play it yet.. My little sister is playing through FFVI and having a blast and I've been waiting for the servers to be more stable and/or the retainer changes to roll out.

When I wandered into my local game shop yesterday at 2.30pm, there was 4 other people in the queue buying FFXIV. From what I saw, they were selling a LOT of copies of the game.

Ul'Dah in Mysidia is packed. I run the game well on low settings (ie no animation issues or anything) but congested areas... any Camps or Shops or Guilds... the lag is just insane.

Is this worldwide server lag or is it just because of the amount of people around?

On a side note, people are exaggerating about how bad the game is. It's really fun... but there doesn't seem to be much content (quests, anyone?)

The wards are really badly designed, though. SE need to work on them as soon as they can.

They are up to 40 one star reviews now. Using the google translator usually sucks, but it translated it well enough for me to recognize that they are ****** with the same things we are.

SE just doesn't listen - we are telling them point BLANK what the problems are, and from closed Alpha up until now they have basically just given us the finger. Get rid of the ******* market wards - they don't work. Fix the UI - it doesn't work. Clean up the menus - they take too much time. Fix the lag - it's at an unacceptable level even for a game that just launched - not every UI interaction requires a response from the server. Needs to be client side. Optimize the code - I'm sick of this game which isn't really superior to anything else out there chewing the **** out of my cores. Get rid of all this fatigue nonsense. If you weren't ready for people to reach level cap, then you shouldn't have released the game. I can't play with my friends because they all hit fatigue by the time I can play on the weekends with them. It's ridiculous.

They should have fixed all these issues before shipping those boxes. They deserve the horrible reviews they are getting. I don't feel in the least bit sorry for them. This is what happens when you don't listen to ANYTHING your players want.

What's ironic, is that the NA side is actually more forgiving with the reviews. Our reviews tend to be more lengthy, but we are at least giving them an average of 3 stars. Still, they have a lot of work to do before this game reaches even the basic level of playability that FFXI has.

I was also kind of surprised that the 30th of Sept. brought forth very few new players. That being said, anyone who cared for this game probably bought the CE in the first place. Are we really that surprised no one's rushed out to buy it after the first week? The game's been getting bashed left and right, yes some people enjoy it, but the overall feel on forums and such is a negative one.

I still stick with my stance, it's a fun game, I don't expect tons of content at release, but god **** it fix the laggy pos UI. That's ALL I ask, I can even survive with the horrible retainer system as is...if they fix the UI so I can search people faster.

Another thing that would add to poor sales is that the buddy pass doesn't require an actual purchase after the 30 days are up. People with buddy passes will just need to pay the monthly fee afterwords. Sooooo people that got the collectors edition and let a buddy join basically doubled the population per collectors edition~

Dear Customer,

Regarding your request for account support. Please find your answer below.

At the end of the buddy pass free trial the customer is asked to enter payment information so that they can continue playing FFXIV. They will not have to recreate their character or start over.

Thank you for contacting the SQUARE ENIX Support Center.

Mysidia has constant server lag everywhere. The only place where its not completely godawful is the camps around gridania.

Yes, it did. Also - STO actually did it through all stores, not just outlet(IE: it was a publisher decision, not a retailer decision like this one).

That's good news, in a weird sort of way. At least I know it's not my computer making the game barely playable.
