Cactaur just aren't cactaur unless they have at least a thousand needles to turn you into a pincushion with.

Guess what else? It hits everyone for 1000. Not divided like it was in FFXI.

Guess what else? That's how it was for every FF game that had them except FFXI. Maybe we shouldn't be punching cacti?

They can be beaten, if you save your TP moves for when the cactaur is at around 1/3 of it's hp. But, I'm a marauder and I miss a lot. I have decided that it's just not worth it.

LOL...

*first encounter with cactuar*
sister: Let's not fight it
me: It's green to me..
*fights catuar*
me: Nothing to it
*1000 needles*
*we both die*

*second encounter with cactuar*
*start quest*
*go kill all these cactuars!*
sister: WTF???
Me: My bad.

Then it turns out that on the quest the cactuars don't do the 1000 needles...
YAY~!

I came across a Cactuar on my way from Gridania to Ul'dah. I saw it was yellow so I killed it. I went to the next Cactuar cause the first one was so easy to kill, two seconds into the fight he used 1,000 Needles... fookin assle...

Exactly how long does the cactuar charge the 1000 needles attack..? I've never fought one.. but perhaps if it's long enough you can unlock the target and run out of its range so you can avoid being hit..

You have to understand that SE's devs like to make mobs that are so horrible that people never, ever fight them. There were a ton of those in FFXI and I expect there will be a ton of them on FFXIV too. They exist solely to make you say to yourself " oh sh*t I better stay away from that"

Also, "cute" mobs are usually some of the deadliest. e.g. rabbits*, mandragora and cactaurs.

*yes, rabbits were one of the deadliest "normal" mob families in FFXI.

OK, I'm familiar with Cactaurs from a few of the FF games. THEY HURT!!!!, I (like probably most who read this thread) had to try one since it Con'd orange to me (lvl 19 squishy conjurer), 1000 needles still hurts/kills.

I read through the forum when I drew a battlecraft leave to kill cactuar's and the sense that I got was the leve cactaur's wouldn't use 1000 needles. As a point of clarification -- They DO. If you have less than a 1000 hp, kill quick or prepare to return :(

Good luck

The "common cactaurs" you fight on the rank 20 leves are actually pretty wimpy. You can solo them pretty quickly and they'll just fall over. But if you take your time, they'll get around to 1000 Needles eventually, so no mercy and try not to aggro too many at once.

Well at least they actually stay true to their original design this time. In FFXI they looked pretty lame.

maybe when they get 1000tp they can use it, they have purple mist stuff for a couple seconds and stand there just before 1000 needles i never tried running away
