Healing = aggroFollow

Errrr okay...

Is it just me or does healing a party member draw hate like moths to a flame?

I'm standing back, aoe is off, tank has drawn aggro and I have the team member in target. I'm literally waiting till the last second to pop the heal so I don't draw hate, but as soon as I cast two of three mobs are beating on me - but not for long since I'm super squishy.

Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else experienced this?

This is an issue I only find happening in leves, and that's mainly because leves consist primarily of multi-enemy fights. It doesn't seem like there's very good AoE enmity generation in this game and yet, for some reason, they have you fight multiple enemies for leves all the time.

I've grinded since level 12 in a group (leves are honestly crap XP), and I can tell you that I have had very little enmity problems in groups that are focusing on a single target. In fact, I'm uploading a video right now of a group of 4 players grinding crabs. In the video the other Conjurer is spamming AoE heals the entire fight and never pulls aggro.

The best thing to do is ask people to spread out and fight different enemies. Either that, or the second you grab aggro start kiting the enemies and hope the other players can survive. I had to do this with the level 20 dodo leve in La Noscea. You have to fight 3 dodos, and any time I'd heal I'd instantly get aggro from two of them. I simply ran away while the other two killed the single dodo. The two would deaggro me, and we would clean up.

1. Cast punishing barbs
2. Cast heal
3. "I regret that I have but one life to lose for my party
4. Die
5. "YAAA! You got 'em!"

Nobody said healers can't be heros....

Good to know I'm not the only one who has experienced this, I have only noticed this with leve quests now that you've mentioned it so obviously that's where the issue lies.

Right now I'm fighting with only one friend tanking and kiting isn't the best approach since we're fighting enemies with reach but this will certainly help me with future leve/healing issues.

Thanks for your prompt response!

This is exactly true. It's is difficult for the tank because there is no AoE Taunt at low level.

Playing Gladiator, as soon as I get to 1000 TP, I try to to use Circle Slash or Brandish, something AoE to get hate. But it's not enough. The heal is worth more, and a party heal, Sacrifice or AoE Cure, is even worse.

There are a couple tactics I've tried with parties:

1. Gladiator Provokes one and the Party can kill the other, with the other melee tanking. In this case the mages can cast heal safely on about the second battle round, after each melee has a minimum of two hits. If melee misses, they do not gain hate. Use Spirit Dart until Heal is safe, but don't be the first to attack the secondary mob.

2. The secondary tank engages first, and tries to get one to chase him. If the mobs link on aggro, the main Tank needs only to Provoke one. The rest of the party needs to wait until hates is established on both mobs to engage.

Mainly, I see Healers/Mages casting cure/spell after the melee takes the first hit, and they become a 2-hit snack. Mages have be low-key, wait for melee to engage, only cast their basic spell until they melee has established hate.

Any Gladiator Mains have some tips on gaining AoE hate at low levels?

I thought it was pretty obvious, but I'll say it... Get Cure for your gladiator and use it as an AOE provoke. :D

Yes, I can see that will work well if cast the right time. I've been casting it, too late to manage hate with though. Perhaps a bit sooner in the battle. Thanks for the idea.

I'm pretty sure that cure becomes single target only when you use it on a different class. But you could still experiment with a Paladin type Gladiator! SE stated that they were going to 'observe' how their enmity rates were working in the game, so I'd imagine they'll change it soon.
