holy cow..

anyone else find this rather annoying? I mean our characters must have the worst case of tunnel vision ever!

In all honesty though, I find this rather bothersome when it comes to things like healing and buffing... any opinions on why SE went this route?

I dont find anything really challenging about it, its more of a handicap. I dont really have a problem with provoke or things like that being line of sight.. but party healing and buffing I dont see that working very well under these conditions

so your thoughts?

Yeah this bothers me too... It seems like an easy fix, just give characters a wider cone of vision.

Regardless the existence of gravity in the game, I think SE was trying to eliminate any possibility of kited fights for FFXIV, I think these other things also support this point of view:

- You must face the target for most abilities and spells.
- Active mode makes you move slower and it's required to cast/activate anything.
- Spells and abilities range is short.
- Every mob has some sort of ranged attack.
- Mobs disengage or try to return to their original position if you get far enough

I understand the kiting argument, but I am talking about healing and buffing players more than mobs...

Healing, buffing etc

this is very annoying, for my conjy i use a macro to engage, this will turn you around and resolve this silly targeting issue.

i.e /lockon

Doing this twice will cause probs so be careful!

The only way i've found to solve this, is locking onto the main party heal target for heals. Then you strafe left and back or just move a bit, and you will turn towards them.

If you do this however, you encounter one of the most frustrating problems with the lock system. Leaving active stance, so you can disengage and run away, does not auto-remove the lock. So you find yourself freakishly trying to run away, but end up running around in a circle, and get 1 shotted LOL. Ya, it happens, and it happens a lot and not only to me :) The other Conjurer in the LS dies a lot this way. Learning to remove the lock is a habit worth getting into. :)

People need to learn how to use properly the (default) C key aka Target lock.. when a target is locked your character will automatically turn towards it.. if you need to run or buff just hit C again and you'll have free movement..
But yeah.. after all as a mage it gets annoying sometimes..

An anomaly I noticed is that gaze type attacks hit you even if you're turned around.. like the blinding special attack of the fireflies..

actually. the site thing has Little to dowith what you mentioned.
The reason mobs run back or have raned is mainly due to MPK
the behavour of mobs in this version, they have an area.
In ERLY ( first 3 years) of FFXI you could practice MPK as mobs would NOT return to thier area. They did nnot give up chasing you and wellyou couldMPK lol
This narrow line of sight seems to be more of an Over sight. Id figure it will be fixed quite soon along with Auto target and a couple more small devices.
