OP, I love a lot of things about this game, and I am a long time fan of SE. However, there is a difference between being a fan, and being blindly loyal. While I love many things about this game, I can still step back and see many problems. I would love to defend SE, but the honest person in me won't let me lie to myself or others.
NO, I do not wish to go to another game. I have been waiting too long for a new mmorpg that has a strong focus on PvE and Story. FFXI had this, but I played it for like 7 years so I'm a bit tired of it. There simply arent any good options out there for me, becuase everything else out on the market is either all or mostly focused on PvP. Most of the games that do have PvE, are not very fun (ex: I played a couple of F2P mmorpgs that had no PvP, but didnt have any raiding or endgame, and barely any quests........wtf do you do after cap? And when I say PvE, I mean missions, quests, storyline, and endgame and not just an alternate grind meathod.
This game has a lot of potential, and I desperately want it to succede. I am going to stick with it til PS3, if a lot of the issues I see arent fixed I will assume that SE has no intention of fixing them. I am not one of these people getting upset because SE isnt fixing things fast enough. I am upset that SE isnt communicating very much with us. I would like a straight answer on some of these "issues" that I see. For all I know SE does not consider them problems, and the game is functioning as intended. If they do acknowledge the problems we see, could we get a schedule? You see its the lack of communication and SE's arrogance about there "art" that I am worried about. They are very proud of their masterpiece, and probably see it as near perfection. SE can be stubborn and resistant to change.
Initially I think I wanted a graphical updated version of FFXI with a new setting, new storyline without all the things that I did not like in FFXI. As the beta came along, I discovered that this was not what FFXIV was. However, it coming from SE, was good enough for me. This game has a few major things that I just NEED: ps3 playablity (when it comes out, zomg get me away from this PC), the ability to do my favorite role (tank), fun story line, great party system, and most importantly awesome endgame. However, it also has things I could do without, and some are small bugs we know will get fixed, others are game mechanics that I am worried are here to stay. SE has said many times that this is a work in progress, and they welcome all feedback. We will see how true that ultimately proves to be. As I said before, I will give them til ps3, to mold this into a well functioning game that has most of the things I want from an mmorpg. If they can achieve this, I will stay for good. If they can not, then I will leave........ don't know where I would go though??!!
Oh and yes it is a P2P Beta. The proof? Well in my mind, no one can convince me that a lack of a sort button was missed by SE. Every single FF game and most games of this type offline or online have a sort function. Do you really think SE missed this or thought that it wasn't needed? No my friends, they simply did not put it in the game before release. They were busy working thier asses off, just trying to get it ready for a September release, and along with a few other things just didnt make it in time. But I have no doubt that its coming. Not like AH, in which I am not sure its coming. They didnt forget an AH, they excluded it for their market system.
I also want double eyepatches, to increase my pirate bravado.
