So ive got a question... i see all these players running around in gear that is well above thier level. Now i admitt.. they do look cool, but thats about it. Do people understand that if your level 18 and your fighting with level 37 gear your going to have sub par performance. Your equipment will degrade at a high rate.. and you wont get the full Defensive ability of said gear. I admitt i myself had made this mistake. But if you look at your stats, and not the equipments stats, you notice that even gear with lower def gives your character higher def. This us due to the gears level penalty. Also this would explain posts from people complaining that after just a few hours of leveling thier gear needs repairing. With level apropriate gear i can exp for almost a day and a half and not see the damage hit

For some reason on Bodham, there's a ton of lvl 14-17 people running around in Bronze Haubergeons and matching legs, feet etc.
I'm constantly wondering if the repair npc is like the choco renters from XI, where the price goes rises as more people use it in a set amount of time. If so, those hauby wearing fools are costing us copious amounts of gil.

I used a r22 conj wand at 13 for a while. Seemed like a good idea until i saw how fast it broke, and how much it cost to NPC repair.

When crafters start making more stuff, and it becomes more easily available, I think we'll see more people wearing the "appropriate" stuff.

Here is my issue/question about this.

So, I have a level 10 Lancer. All of my gear for the Lancer is level 10 or under.

Now, when I switch to my Fisher (level 6) or my Culinarian (level 6), some of my gear is now too high level (all I did was switch my weapon, not my gear).

Am I going to encounter a penalty for this? Or, because I'm not actively attacking/being attacked (since those are my gathering and crafting classes, respectively), are my stats hurt a bit, but no real damage done?

If this is the case, having to add equip/unequip stuff into all my macros is going to be a pain. I'll need at least 2 macros per class change! Ugh.

I use the bronze gear. To tell you the truth it just looks cool and dose not cost all that much to repair if you have players fix it for you. /shrug I will not need to buy gear for the next 30 lvls and I look good. What's the big deal?

Gear still scales nicely. at 18 I'm gettign 3/4 str and 3/3 dex from the Hauby, and it offers 2 more def than my Canvas Tunic. I also havent had to repair it yet, and I've had it since 15. Where are you getting your information from and why are you passing it off as fact?

I'm wearing gear my level (rank 12/phys 19 lancer, wearing rank 9-11 gear & rank 9 harpoon) for the most part, but I am wearing the rank 30(?) eyepatch you can buy from a NPC in Gridania. Mostly because eyepatches are pretty much the coolest thing ever. Plus hats are ugly.

But yeah, I have to repair my gear enough as is, it must be absolutely infuriating how much the people wearing full rank 25+ stuff at my level must have to repair their gear. >:

edit: much != must. >:

That's something I would like to know as well. I use the ash macuahuirl and bronze scutum each over rank 25. I am rank 11 glad. They hit harder than my lvl weapon and block more than my lvl shields. And yes I have tested this. Also I repair them no more than I do my lvl weapons and shields. So where are the facts about repair coming from. It sure is not working put that way for me.

You have not tested it enough obviously. I did extensive testing from ranks 13 - 22 on the Willow Wand.
I tested both rank 11 elm cane vs rank 22 willow wand.

At rank 13, the willow wand was 12 points worse in each stat(damage & accuracy). There was also a hidden accuracy debuff that I am theorizing because I noticed a much higher miss rate. I tested this with the weathered cane level 1 which had worse accuracy than the rank 11 elm cane, but I hit more with the weathered cane than i did with willow wand at level 13.

At level 14, the willow wand did not increase, but at level 15 it gained +3 points in damage and accuracy, and continued to do so until level 18. At level 18, rank 11 elm cane and rank 22 willow wand were equal, but I still experienced a diminished accuracy AS WELL AS a higher rate of durability loss. At level 19, the willow wand had higher stats, but lower accuracy still, at 20, I noticed that the accuracy was normal and at 22 I hit the full stats.

I did not bother to do any testing on the impact of armor, but from what i've heard from LS mates, is that the decrease in stats is more negligible than that of weapons .

you tested a 2h weapon to a 1h weapon. Try testing a maple wand to a willow wand.

Cane is supposed to have more stats than the 1h at the same level, cause you can't use a shield.
