I do not know if this has been suggested, or if there is a way to implement it currently, so here goes...

I think that the action bar should not be a bar so much as a 3x3 square. the default button should be the center button, which if you are using a controller after selecting an action to perform the selection box will return to this button.

Alternatively, setting it up like this would allow you to use the D-pad on your controller directly to select an action and have the box "snap" back to the center as soon as pressure on the d-pad is removed.

I just find it to be a "quality of life" change that would not affect keyboard users and would help streamline the controller useage. By having every action on your bar within two directional presses away (or alternatively using the d-pad) would allow people to focus less on their action bar and more on the action of the game.

Anyway, could just be a personal wish... if its worth posting to SE, someone with the means or motivation please do so.

Probably won't happen, but if you want any chance at all I would post at the following link, or directly to developers.

If they give us keyboard users the option to keep the current action bar, I don't see any harm. Maybe that can have something along these lines for PS3 launch, but do get your hopes up. lol

No disrespect to the ZAM network, I just meant something more official... a SE FFXIV forum - like the beta forums.

This is an awesome idea, but just one thing, there are currently 27 slots.

If there was a way to toggle different pages then even better.

Having the option to keybind a button on the controller to cycle through would fix that.

Or, similiar to how you can hit say r-bumper to bring up your alt macro bar, having the option to bind r-trigger to bar 2 and l-trigger to bar 3 would solve that issue nicely.

What you've described is a kind of radial menu, and I agree: it would be a great thing to add to the interface (as an option of course).

It's a perfect example of something that allows keyboard and controller players to have different interfaces and yet still be able to perform actions just as easily. Heck, with analog support a player can select an action just by tilting the stick and hitting confirm, which takes about the same amount of time as a keyboard player hitting a number key.
