I know i know there been alot of threads on it before...and now its my turn apperently.
followed zoltanrs advice on port forwarding, internet connection is my own not someone elses and i live in NY not in the UK.
The problem is the download is crazy unstable 1kb-900kbs usually near 1kb alot of time at 0 too is this normal?, also ive never had a single remote connection i heard that might matter.
Any suggestions? >.>

Mine starts out at 0 for about 20-50 seconds each time and then climbs and usually stays at about 400 which is norm for my connection. From the time I put the game in the drive to the time i was sitting on a character updated and logged in was 38 minutes.
I've not actually noticed myself getting any remote connections. The few times the beta patcher was being slow i went right for utorrent and it was fast still.
Utorrent can be used to check and see if your network is p2p friendly(as in open for connections with a big green indicator or a yellow or red one if it is still not opened up)
Past that aside from having upnp turned on which is default on in windows 7 I'm not sure what to tell you do to from there. I would check it with utorrent and set its port to one you have open and see if it goes green for the connection. Also maybe check inside modem/router and see if theres a firewall in there. On my old router the firewall ignored port forwarding and doesn't generally work well with any setting so I had to disable it to get anything to come through.
Is it actually downloading at any sort of speed or is it just sitting at 0 99% of the time and doing nothing?
@ Wonder FFXI patcher was like that as well it seemed to do jack crap when it wasn't up front and center lol
