I was prepared to quit. I spent my time during slow points at work dreaming up an epic post detailing why I'd never by another SE product. It was going to be a grand, sweeping epic narrative about my 20 some years of gaming. My magnus opus of forum posts berating you for oddball desicions and what seems like negelect. Oh, you were going to get it.

Then I did Ul'dah's Rank 15 main storyline quest.

Just ... ugh. I feel abused, but it's like the *** is good so I stick around. As long as the storyline remains this epic, you've got till PS3 release to make some sense of the rest of the game. Which makes me feel dirty.

Is anyone else thrilled with the quality of writing in XIV like me? This quest was the most fun I've had gaming in a while.

PS: I wish I could quit you. You complete me. So on and so forth.

There have been times where this game brings me to the highest highs, and then seconds later the lowest lows. I hear ya. But lol

yep the rank 15 story mission in Gridania was pretty badass as well. Totally set up for a grand adventure. Had a little hint of the "ECHOS" or the reliving of the past. I can't wait til I hit 20 for the next quest. ^^

I feel ya man...

One of my favorite parts of XI was the great story. I love the story in 85% of the FF games i've played since 1987 on the NES. Its one of the things that I am loving in XIV. Im in Uldah as well and no complaints from me so far (as far as story is concerned)

At 20 you get main storyline quest... and as a perk.. you also get to begin your Guild quest for whatever job you have at rank 20. Even more awesome cutscenes and quest to unfold.

Telling a story seems to be the only thing they can do right which will make it worth it for me. I am sure everything else will get fixed within the next 8 years.

Sounds good.

Do you think the 3 city quests will converge in to one big epic like XI/Zilart/CoP? Man that story progression was insane, especially for an MMO.

Each city has NPC(s) in the opening cutscenes and they progress through the storyline sequences with your character. If you watch the trailer for the game closely there show clips of a cutscene where each of these NPCs is in the same shots together. So in short yes they storylines from each city will converge. Also the rank 20 quest has everyone, regardless of start nation, report to Uldah. I wont elaborate beyond that.

Glad to see you are sticking around Sephrick. I see class specific quests in the DB but no info on them yet. Look forward to seeing what they are as well.

So far the main quests, which are basically the "missions" in XI, have been done much better than in XI. The instances make it feel like you are pulled into an offline FF game, even when there are other PC running around, they are just in the same instance. Simple changes such as pulling NPC chat into separate dialog windows helps a lot.

While team battles in XI were great, I never felt they were worth the trouble setting them up. Either you had to stop your story progression to find more members, which could take hours to weeks depending on which quest you do or where, or joining a static to do missions. A static required you to do the stories on other people's times, not when you felt like. So far, I enjoy the missions being like offline games, giving me NPCs to help out makes it more sensible to have challenging, yet doable fights. I also like not having to feel like I need to rush through cut-scenes as people are waiting on me.

^ You must have had bad static party experiences.

I'm glad FFXIV seems to be following in XI's footsteps regarding the quality of the story. I was starting to worry. Gridania's first two missions were pretty bland, tbqh.

No, not really. But when you need a static of 6 people, chances someone is going to have to be flexible enough to do the fights at times that are less than ideal for them. I never liked needing to be online at a set time for a video game, I prefer to log on when I have free time and actually feel like playing. And at that time, I want to do what I want to do right at that moment. If that's not a realistic goal for a MMO producer to have, as close as possible should be.

Um, could I please ask a complete noob question?

I did the first "city quests" for Uldah on my first morning playing the game. I am now physical level 22, and conj 17 but dont seem to be able to get any more city quests. Are they based on job, or physical level?

I started the game as Glad - do I need to return to glad to get the missions?

I returned to the first npc that handed out the missions (a taru taru in the opening Inn in Uldah) but I just dont seem to be able to get the latest missions? Help!

ye i was pretty exited with mission 4 i was like omg omg omg they speak :) lol previous missions was just text after text.

i am satisfied with the story so far and the way they have done it because each mission gets better and better and it makes me want to quickly level up so i can see the next part.

although there seems to be a mission every 5 ranks and im rank 16 and the next mission is 20 so i take it that the story is short due to a maximum level of 50 in the game.

I actually have the exact same problem. I too am in Ul'dah and cannot get any further story line quests. The last one I finished was the level 10 Golden Sacrifices. I've been told that the next quest can be obtained at physical level 15. The problem is that I am now level 18 with a rank 13 leatherworker and 11 pugilist.

When talking to Momodi I get no options for the next quest. I've been trying to find out for a few days now what I'm doing wrong, but so far no one has answered me.

The required level refers to your class level. The first is for level 1, the second "Golden Sacrifices" I think is for level 8 or 10. The next is for level 15.

You should talk with Momodi inside the Quicksand to start them.

This is correct. Quest access is dependent entirely on your class rank, and you have to be on that class when you talk to the npc in order to get the cutscenes. You can change class after initiating the quest, but to start it you have to be on a class of the appropriate rank. The second one is at rank 10, then again at rank 15, then again at rank 20. Not sure after that.

Takes more than a cutscene to keep me interested in a game.

Was the level 15 Limsa cutscene badass? No doubt. But there's also several FF games I've yet to beat, all with cool cutscenes and, not to mention, more story at more frequent intervals.

This is a game. Gameplay is what keeps me playing. I don't care how good the visuals are.

Awesome, thank you. I'll give it a shot once I get up there.

I hope the later missions require a team. Unlike one of the above posters, I really liked the team battles.
In fact, the only things that still makes me rage beyond belief about XIV is how much soloing you can do, and the party exp bug.
