This is the second of a multi part review. And honestly it's the best I've seen for XIV. I read the first one, and he seemed lost and dissapointed, but seemed to be keeping an open mind. In this one we get a bit more done than the first (and a shoutout to ZAM). Overall I wish all MMO reviews were like this (some sites won't review until X amount of time played which leads to an out of date review, or will only play for 5 minutes and destroy any chance a product has of being tried by folks who only use one source). I really like the style and effort.

The review shows most of the flaws we complain about, but doesn't completely trash the game. And besides as I said, there's a quick blurb about ZAMs awesomeness.

I had a quest, and I wouldn't sleep until I completed it!

Filled with a tremendous sense of purpose, I turned off the game and went to sleep.

It seems like a pretty balanced review actually. I'll be keeping my eye on the next installments.

This is incredibly representative of my feelings for the game.

I am part of a rather large linkshell, and we all have picked up various crafting classes. We have someone doing every single class almost exclusively, and that has literally been the only thing that is keeping me entertained in the game. This game will become 100% completely enthralling once party play has been either figured out or hashed out in a version update, but, until then, crafting has become my sole goal. I am not interested in the gil, just the level of accomplishment.

Good post, OP. I appreciate Kotaku's 4-week-review approach for MMOs.

I'm glad you understand what I'm getting at. The review itself isn't great, but it's not a write off either, it's a paced proccess.

IGN is doing the same thing, however their reviewer seems much more lost and/or frustrated with the game.
