well why waste a go doing defend when you could use that action for an attack move.

mob attacks you
you use scourge
mob attacks you
you use shield to defend (what a waste when you could of attacked and got the mob health down)

guard lasts for a while, its not like you forgoing an attack just to block one, and then you'd need to use it again. Its relatively easy to maintain, but I'm not finding it all that useful as a con.

GLA have a skill that works with shield. It works like a counter attack when the mob hit u while u in defending mode.

A pretty good point. In most circumstances, this is actually right. Even with Aegis Boon, which takes up a lot of stamina and lasts only 10 seconds. The shield is for the rest.

Btw: In OB every single shield block would take away an additional amount of stamina (!). However, back then it was also quite usual to have a shield block completely deflect an incoming attack (reducing it to 0 damage).

uh you can be in the middle of a melee/dart attack and still block as long as you don see "you drop your shield arm" it's just casting that still takes full damage when struck. Could be intentional could be an oversight.

The gladiator skill is not a counter is a NORMAL attack that you are allowed to use if you happen to does normal damage like slash attack but half the time you don't block anyway. you lose out on a hit to raise your shield, you don't block anything, your shield falls and you have to raise it again.

I like the idea...but don't get me wrong. I didn't make a Big Blue Badass that could not hold his own shield up for more than 15 seconds. This is something that quickly made me decide on a different class as a main. Galdiator is a ******/clunky tank.

When I raise my shield it blocks pretty much every physical attack and reduces the damage I recieve.
During block it's no problem to use every ability just like normal and you can activate a weaponskill everytime you block. It's called Phalanx and deals about 1,5x the damage of a normal attack (no crit).
If you just use Phalanx twice that already makes up for the one attack you "missed out" and you recieve less damage from mobs hitting you.
I always try to keep my shield up. It's especially usefull when under attack from more mobs as you can use Phalanx on a mob even if you just blocked an attack from another mob.
