They do usually call the version updates as such specifically, yes?

No.

Why does everyone keep saying tings liks this? They don't shut the servers down and start hacking at the code. They get make changes to the code, test it, tweak it, get it ready to upload - then they shut the servers down and install the new server side code and setup the client side patch to be downloaded.

However long that process is, the required "maintenance" perid should be roughly the same weather they are fixing one small bug, or doing a significant overhaul. Whatever updates they are implementing tonight are already done as far as coding goes.

Even quests and future expansions are likely "mostly done" at this point and need mere refining (if anything). They have been working on this game for many years and the placeholders for future content are all over the place.

I'm honestly starting to think that this is why so many people seem unwilling to give SE credit for the things they actually do to try and fix the game. They assume that no major 8+ hour maintenance has been done, therefore SE isn't really trying. And they further assume when a longer maintenance is done that it always entails massive changes to the game when all it could really indicate is that they were swapping out and reconfiguring faulty hardware or doing routine hardware maintenance. That would explain all of the "SE isn't doing anything to address our concerns" ******** a few days into official service. "There has been no extended maintenance while SE changes and recompiles the code on the servers, therefore they must not be doing anything at all."

What a @#%^ing tragedy that would be if that's what people really thought....

Does everything have to be a springboard for some kind of rant? Smiley: rolleyes

On topic: I'm not expecting anything here. They're still working on rolling out those market ward labeling changes, right? I have a feeling those will be the first of any changes that we see. Best I'm hoping for a significant change to the system is in a few weeks. Who knows though...I'd sure love to be pleasantly surprised.

Well 8 days ago they said the market ward changes would be rolled out in 1 to 1.5 weeks. So I would be pretty surprised if we didn't get at least those changes.

Hopefully we'll see at least *one* of the several current issues addressed in some way or another.

Is anyone else also having issues with limited inventory space for holding all their crafting material and gear? Opening up the option to obtain additional retainers would at least be a step in the right direction...

About a week ago (maybe a little more), I remember reading something about SE wanting to implement the ability to purchase additional retainers as well as rename the market wards within "the next two weeks."

Though I know it's announced as a maintenance, I'm still really hoping that this is going in. The time frame seems appropriate, so we can hope, yes?

It certainly would not fix all of the glaring issues, but it would be a good step in the right direction.

It means I plan to be called fanboy for months on end, while I'm enjoying FFXIV with friends that are just like me and willing to play a unfinished game rather than going back to WoW. I think it says more about me than the game. lol

How on earth does that reflect the quality of the game? He doesn't have a computer to play it on. That's why it's sitting on his desk.

That's how SE has done their previous patches. They say the servers are coming down for maintenance. Then at some time before the servers are back up, a patch appears on the downloader.

Then everyone sits around wondering what the heck that patch did until hours later when SE finally releases some patch notes.

Whether this is actually only maintenance or not, we'll find out in about 24 hours from now.

I'm thinking that this will be the market changes that they talked about back on the 29th.

Here is what I'm talking about:
http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=693682a80ae927d74b11a0381c7cd1af570568aa

You'll notice that in their first answer, they say...

"As a result, we are planning a number of revisions and additions to the system, the first of which are scheduled to be implemented in the next one to two weeks."

With that being on the 29th, the 6th would have been the one week mark. So the timeframe makes sense that what they discuss in that Q&A is what the maintenance will be for.

But who knows? It could just be server restarts.

i read the article in that link...what they said they are trying to do sounds exactly like an auction house. sometimes re-inventing the wheel works. if anything, they should have added features to the AH to make it even more convenient then FFXI's was.

I know it isn't fair to directly compare this MMO with their other MMO because they aren't going for FFXI-2, but so many things worked in their first MMO, and just because you used it again doesn't make it a clone of the original.

the perfect example of this, is the legend of zelda series. i have to give it to nintendo, for having the balls to reinvent their flagship game everytime a new one comes out. the secret to the success, is not changing the formula, but the features.

Reading these pots is making me excited that they MIGHT fix some of the issues, but I'll most likely wake up in the morning and be disappointed. I'm crossing my fingers that something new is released or something is fixed so I can have a lot of fun playing all weekend.

I don't think it will be anythign that elaborate... I'm expecting something like:

"The /sit emote for Miqo'te has been changed slightly".

Heh, that brings back memories. Geez, it's been a long time since the olden days of XI.

trouble with folks getting there hopes up is if the isn't a `super fix` then your gonna be more unhappy about the game, and this will lead to more negativity.

hope im wrong though, but i stay sceptical that way it can only be good news.

Nah, there's a difference between hoping and expecting for me. And believe me I don't expect anything from them right now. My opinion of this game really can't go much lower so the only direction XIV has to go for me is up.

soooo if im correct (i cant actually tell the time it takes me AGES to work it out)
this is during JP prime time... and again.. if im correct.......

all you ******* who whined in another thread about never having jp prime time shutdowns have changed your tones.. and .. if i am correct... i said they do occasionally do them.. in said thread
HA!

if im wrong however.. HA! to me for being dumb :P (unable to read numbers well but ya know..)

on another note...i really enjoy this game so far, im even enjoying crafting.. and i usually HATE crafting in games, however it annoys me that it takes 3 other crafts to make one thing but i guess that wont be so bad when we are all a bit more sociable.
i DO hope this is to sort out the market wards so we can give that a go.. then ***** about no AH or even a lack of search function in the wards, when we relise that its still **** spamming through all the retainers. However if its not, i wont cry like some people, ill just take it into fact that maybe they put some code in there ready for stuff like that and EVENTUALLY it will come

For me in Australia, and in Sydney, which currently has Daylight Savings (GMT +10 with DST on,) maintenance started at 5pm and should finish at 9pm.

Japan (GMT +9) is two hours (one without DST) before me, and generally prime time for them (when the servers start to lag up) is from about 8pm-12am, or 10pm-2am for me.

So the maintenance really finishes just as Japanese players are ready to play :o

Well there was indeed a patch... just got it. No notes and the servers are still down though so I have no idea what's in it.

It did seem pretty small... although I'm not sure if that means anything.

If they were only patching the executable it would be pretty small. A data patch would be larger.

Despite the negativity, there is a patch! No idea what's in it though. Its not exactly massive, but here's to hoping its actually fixing something relevant.

It's hard to say, you could actually make some pretty major changes in a small executable patch, including the market ward changes they announced. I wouldn't bet on extra content though, unless the content data is already there and they're just holding off on it or they haven't implemented it programmatically yet.

$100 says its something lame like this:

fixed incorrect tile placement for japanese phrase "Hello"

fixed a frame rendor error that caused a double frame to display when a miquite dances over water on a rainy day causing a total of 2 extra frames per minute.

Fixed a calculation of matmor hide vendor pricing it accidentally paid out 500 gil and it was supposed to pay 50 gil....

Just added ther eis a version update so looks like some fixes after all!!!!!!! YAY
