Tried to make the title descriptive... not sure I succeeded. Here goes:

As you gain Physical Levels, your stats increase; both on a base level (ie your strength automatically raises from 30 to 32 when you gain a level) and by giving you a number of attribute points to distribute as you see fit.

So, for example, I have a Lancer at Class Rank 10 and my Physical Level is 13. This gives me STR and DEX around 40, the way I've dealt out my attribute points.

Now, if I were to switch to Pugilist, how would this affect my stats? My physical level is still 13 and the points I have distributed are still there, so would my STR and DEX still be around 40? I assume the base stats change a bit based on your current class, yes?

What I'm getting at is that, for my first time leveling a class from 1-10, my Physical Level was increasing along side it. The next class I level though, my Physical Level will be much higher, and theoretically so will all my stats. Will this not make leveling my next class up much easier?

Or, and I might be way off here, but does your Class Rank affect your stats as well? If I am Physical Level 30 but change to a Class Rank 5 job, will my stats be lowered to reflect that?

Basically, I'm just looking for a distinction between Physical Level and Class Rank as they pertain to your stats.

I'm still trying to figure this out as well.

I've noticed that when I switch to Marauder, I get more HP. When I'm a botanist I get less. I haven't checked my other stats just because when I'm gathering, I'm not fighting anything, but I'll have to look at this a little closer.

Your stats do change based on your class, but I imagine that this matters more switching between Disciplines of War and Magic than between War and Hand or Magic and Land.

You already answered your question yourself.

That's basically what's happening. While it is somewhat easier to level a second class with already higher physical level the stats are capped.

So, for example you can have a lv10 Lancer with 40STR but when you switch to Pugilist, while it still shows you the 40STR, your actual benefits from the stats are capped at let's say 30STR. The other 10STR are useless till your class level increases and the cap raises.
Different classes have different stat caps.

That's also the reason why it's useless to push a certain stat because you will hit the cap and every point above the cap will be wasted.

I'm sure this will go in a seperate thread eventually, but you rank does have a bearing. this is the one data point i can add to anyone who wants to test this out.

at lvl 15 glad
(and even this might be off because I had +2 vit from gear)

after 62 VIT points any increases made no differance to my HPs

at 63 vit no change

So then the question to end all questions: Is there a way to know what this cap is? In FFXI, skills that were capped turned yellow (I think). Do we get this gift? Or did SE put in another annoying hinderance?

This is sad, sad news. I thought this game had a soft cap on stats, not a hard one... disappointing. I can see why they would implement it for leveling other classes, but what happens when you hit R50, or simply wanted to stack a certain stat while ranking up your main class?
