Just lost 600 earth shards to oblivion to bug or poor designFollow

Had 999 earth shards on my retainer. To test if he could hold multiple stacks I selected a stack of 600 earth shards from my inventory. I clicked to change the quantity to 1 and pressed enter to confirm, 1 shard was selected. I clicked entrust and poof, 600 earth shards went into oblivion.

This is disgustingly poor game design, for whatever reason they decided to not allow us to have more than 1 stack of shards, they should have made it block you from attempting to throw them all away like this. There is no warning message, it just accepts the instruction and the shard will dissapear.

Holy bajeezus, that is a horrible bug! I am truly sorry it had to come up in that way. It's not the most catastrophic thing you could've lost, but it still sucks horribly majorly. I will be sure to avoid that activity thanks to your discovery, but I really do hope they fix it and/or you can somehow get that back through a GM call.

An LS mate of mine lost a whole slew of earth shards that I tried to trade him yesterday because of something like this. He had a number of shards on him already, and I tried to give him my 999 stack.

All of the excess shards that would put him above 999 went into the nether without warning. He refused to tell me how many, because he said I would just get upset. Smiley: frown What a silly bug.

You need to put in 1, press enter, THEN hit confirm.

If there are 600 in the box, and you put in "1", then hit enter, it'll still register 600.

Did the same thing, except through vendoring. I had 600 shards and went ahead and bought 850, of course out of all the times this one time i forget to check how many I got left because of how long I was grinding synthesis and was just too tired going through 7 hours of menus. You can guess what happened next, poof just lost 450 shards because there's no confirmation or anything, JUST ****** GONE.

as much as this sucks there is a lesson to this story
be careful, and pay attention to what you do

guess now i have incentive to sell all my extra shards even earlier then usual just so i dont overstock, cuz i get way too many fire with what i do

I love how they have a billion menus for some stuff (crafting, dropping stuff from inventory, etc.) yet they can't give some confirmation that you are going to destroy extra shards.

Yea, sadly thats your fault. 300g is for an entire stack of items. I wish SE would make that more clear, as I've seen many evil players use this tactic to get shards for crazy cheap.

while it sucks that you lost so many shards, ive gotta ask....what is with the general hoarding of huge amounts of shards? ive seen a lot of people talk about losing huge quantities of shards, and i just cant fathom how/why someone would farm 1500+ of a certain kind of shard. wont that crash the **** out of the market? or is it a personal thing, trying to save up literally every shard you would ever use for crafting?

Good question. Earth shards are the easiest to come by and I personally don't keep any more that 150 in my inventory because they are easy money. I don't use many of them for my craft so it works out pretty well.

Well in my case, I wasn't trying to hoard them. Sometimes I forget all about that extra tab in my inventory for "crystals" and they just add up. This time, I had been on a grinding spree to get PUG and MAR to 10, and marmots seem to drop earth shards like they're made entirely of them.

A member asked for them in LS, and I was like "Oh, I probably have a ton of them. Haven't even looked."

yea its a ******** design, i transfered shards to my retainer cept I lost a few hundred wind shards (ie: the most expensive ones) on my server. Not to mention anything over if your adventuring goes to the ******* as well. Not even a warning or an option to swap or anything. GG 1/2 finished game. Although w/ the resources square enix has its impressive they got an mmo out and on the market quicker than most companies can with a single player game. I think they started the concept art 2 years ago? err nm there was no concept art they just re used the classes and zones and called them something different lol. sorry i had to

Because it requires tens of thousands of shards to level any craft up. 6 shards average for a craft and they won't last long.

i have huge amounts because i know a few people that ask for them every day so i make 15k per stack of 50 and i can get 500-800 in a day and i sell most of that in a day so if you work that out i get 240,000g a day just on wind shards.

thats why i like to carry alot of shards.

Yeah I eat stuff too, but I was just using that as an example. That process is what you go through to delete anything.

Ok, there is plenty of bad design in the game, this isn't an example of one though. This is an example of a bad bug. I seriously doubt this is the intended behavior, but an unfortunate bug likely one that would have been caught without a rushed delievery.

That being said, did you try logging into Elder Scrolls IV and sending those earth shards back to FFXIV?
