An observation on gear!Follow

Sorry if this has been done already but I'm on my iPhone at work and for some **** reason search won't work!

Anyway thought this may be of some use to people when selecting what gear to wear:
The 2 catogories on a peice of gear (optimal rank and favoured class) work independently of each other. What I've noticed is optimal rank effects the base line stats of the peice like def and Eva.
Whereas the favours part only effect the bonusses received from wearing I.e. +15mp or str +5.

Currently I'm at ARC18 and equipping the trackers body piece (optimal rank 29) drops my def by 3 points compared to what I was wearing. But as peices favoured class is ARC I still receive the + bonus to hp str and dex.

At that point I thought I'll trade 4def for those stat boosts thank you muchly.

Not sure yet as to what the durability/wear situation will be yet. Though I carry all my repair gear with me anyway so no problem.

Hope this helps and hope I ain't double posting!

I don't even know what half the items or stats do, but I gave my miqo'te some tights and ugg boots and I'm happy with that.

Well you're on the right track Wolfums, ugly gear is unacceptable regardless of the stats. Keep up the good work! :p

What gear, I thought we are supposed to run around in our undergarments with nothing but a hatchet and a pickaxe.

Works pretty well for me. I have a cowl, but thats only for in town so I don't get taken to jail by the cops for indecent exposure.

So it's just me that's geared for 5 jobs then?

ARC, GLA, Crafting x2 (HQ and Control), Gathering.

Lol, nope. I do have 3 sets (I count the Undergarments as a set :) ) of gear actually. My gathering gear, and what I am usualy in 90% of the time is listed above. I also use that for crafting leves and if I am just grinding crafting and know I will make it easily.

I have a 1/2 set of crafting gear if I am making an actual item I plan on using/selling or that might give somewhat of a hickup. I also have my go out and shoot magic at the enemies Conjurer set. But like I said, 90% of the time I dont have anything on but the undergarments as the rest does not seem to be needed.

How do you guys manage to already have several sets XD
I can hardly find stuff to buy even though I have lots of gils (not spending 2h in the wards, sorry, just checking passer by when there is down-time)
In any case, with goldsmith, smith, miner and pug (along with tools for armorer) I really have no room for gear to be honest, just nuggets, ore and ingot in my inventory XD

+1 the undergarment for 90% of the time, no way I will get my gear damaged while I don't need to!

Sometimes the leves give a gear item as part of the reward. I've gotten most of my gear from leves alone. Couple of items I've crafted, 2 of the lv12 crafting tools I purchased from the markets. Usually with the leve timer reset, I check all 3 cities to see if any are giving gear. If they are, I have at them. If anything, it's something to put up in bazaar or trade with friends.

I have a couple items I swap out when I switch between DoW, DoM, and DoH, but for the most part I'm wearing inappropriate gear for the job, or no gear at all (to prevent durability loss). My main class has a complete set of gear of the correct optimal level and favor.

I would love to have multiple sets but I simply do not have the inventory space to allow for it. With any luck, they will have added in additional retainers during the maintenance, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

In my experience, wearing gear above your level does cause the durability to drop faster. Not significantly faster, but quicker than level appropriate gear. So if the stats are better, and you can afford the repair bill (or can repair yourself), than go for it. I've been wearing level 23 boots since I've been in the mid-teens. Even with the equip penalty they're better than what I was wearing - level 1 starter shoes.
