Q. Will I be able to do the main scenario quests for the city-states other than the one I choose as my starting destination when creating a character?
A. In fitting with the role of the adventurer as a champion of the nation in which his or her journey begins, players can partake only in the main scenario storyline of the starting destination chosen during character creation. We invite you to peruse the various plot synopses and NPC introductions to decide which epic adventure sounds most enticing to you!

So they basically cut the content by 1/3 with this decision. The whole reason I wanted to play FFXIV was for the storyline. Now what?

Do i make 3 characters and level them to 50 each just to experience the whole of the game? Or do I go back to another MMO that won't cause me such heart ache? I was with you SE until this. Now, I just don't know.

It will all make sense when you get to a certain point. Sure, you miss out on 2 Cities quests (3 total ATM)... But from what I've read we all end up at the same city after a certain point.

I don't remember if in XI we could change cities from NA release or if it was added in later.

Obviously I haven't personally experienced my main point, so I could be wrong. But I've read a few peoples spoiler free descriptions of the 3rd or 4th main quest that centralizes everything.

Yea, I'm not surprised by the "progress" outline restricting you to your starting city. As the game progresses, you most likely will be joining at a central story point and move from there forward. It's just that the starting city is the first story arc to get you to that point.

IMHO, it's par for the course in regards to Square-Enix. And more than likely after a while, this may be something they unlock and allow players to go back and complete (this is speculation).

Worst case scenario is you'd have to take 2 alts to rank 15. After that all the stories converge into one story line.

Yeah, it makes me sad too. I don't want to make a new character, but so far I find the missions for my starting city to be pretty boring. Everyone said the third mission was really good, but I just didn't feel it. I feel like I've lost a lot by not being able to enjoy the main story, so I was really hoping it'd be possible to realign with a different city. Even outside the actual story of the mission, I still feel pretty jilted as they are extremely short, and since we have crafter/gather classes they don't have interesting battles anymore either. (I'm in Ul'dah and I just finished Calamity Cometh, btw)

I don't remember I was able to do the main story quests for the other two cities in FFXI. I guess it doesn't matter what SE does now, it'll still make some people sad.

In XI you could change Nation allegiance, but it was really only worthwhile for people who had completed their own rank missions and wanted to cap them all, or mages who wanted the Windy only gloves for mage jobs.

The stories converge in to one big huge overarching thing. With a quick scan of these forums, it would appear that the same is true of XIV.

OP - It's not two thirds of the content, but essentially, 3 or so missions in what will most likley be something that lasts for years.

Looking at the list without diving into them for fear of spoilers, it is not as easy to tell if all quest lines merge. In fact, I stay away from all threads regarding story spoilers. With that said, clue me in please. Someone already said at 15 all quests merge into 1 arch. Is this true? It seems the link I gave only shows up to 15, each with its own line. This means that 20 is the next feasible level where all lines converge. So can someone just give the names of each nations level 20 quest for each city state? Maybe that will give a clue if it is the same quest.

I dunno. I thought only rank 1 quests would be nation only. I was wrong obviously and would like to know how wrong I was.

In XI you could change your allegiance and see all of the nation specific quest content, I'm sure XIV will have that functionality as well (at some point in the distant future). Somebody will complete the questlines and youtube all the CS's into one nice cohesive story before SE will build in that functionality though.

A lot of people get very vested in FF storylines and CS's, and quite frankly SE does a much better job than any other MMO when it comes to storyline. Personally, I couldn't care less, but I'm sure you will get to see it all eventually on one toon if you really wanted to.

A lack of an auction house is a bigger problem then this.. and I don't even think the lack of an Auction House is this games biggest problem.
