No, but it should be better than the first, not worse.

The quote that most sums up the game..."bafflingly obvious ommisions".

They did seem to out of their way to cast it in the worst light possible. They went so far as to do selective editting by pulling things out of context to cast things in a negative light. For example, the part about the pitter-pattering of feet and then cut to show a character run accross a bridge. Huh? It is a bad thing that you listen to shoe-on-wood footsteps when walking accross a wooden bridge.

One thing is obvious with FFXIV...about 75% of the game resources were spent on the extremely detailed cutscenes. Almost like the devs forgot they were working on a MMO and thought they were working for Pixar on "Final Fantasy the Movie". Unfortunately, those cutscenes have no effect on gameplay, and good gameplay is why folks log into MMOs.

It should at least be playable.

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, except the most rabid fanbois agrees this game is terrible and a complete and utter failure. Who do you think is right? The 5% that play it, or the 95% that say it is crap?

Nah, cause the defenders will always cite their "silent majority" of players who are in game playing and loving it. While I agree there are tons of players online playing it, I can honestly say I've heard almost every member of both my LSs say at some point "man I really hope they change X", or "How could they leave out Y", or "this came could have been amazing if not for Z". I think the silent majority is either sticking it out until it gets better or they lose interest.

Just curious, but does anyone have any idea about what the Japanese said about FFXI when it first came out? It wasn't until about a year after the JP release that NA got the game with the release of Rise of the Zilart, so by the time the rest of the world got the game, SE had some time to cook up more content and fix some stuff.

Perhaps SE should've taken that route again this time, but either way, I think that all isn't lost just yet. Unlike with APB, SE is big enough that they've got some money to throw around while they fix things.

Going read whole thread in a bit see what others are saying but watched the review and then read the comment from game trailer users.

The review i agree with to a certain extent , but i think you cant score this game in number values in its current state, i kinda prefer how site like kotaku do there reviews to be honest because the number values suck in review, im not fan of meta critic as well , its like people look at scores and think its crap or it scored 10/10 95% must be greatest game ever.

I agree with the points they make in gametrailer review on lack on content and slow ui , the enviroment argument is not a big problem to me and not being able to jump , if you could jump in ff14 it could cause issues lol.

The game has potential and they say it's not worth the time. i guess that is up to people.

I know im up for 6 months and if nothing changes then will start thinking maybe it not right game for me, but for now i happy to play it on and off and hope more gets added to it.

Ok on to gametrailer people and others that comment final fantasy 13 sucked and started a decline in final fantasy games, these people just dont care about final fantasy full stop.

I asked my brother about ff13 the other day, he has played through it and hes not a massive jrpg gamer like i am.
I have not finished ff13 but he said although its not his best game of the year (which for him is mass effect 2 so far) he quiet enjoyed the game , while i know he would probley hate ff14 and 11 it goes in my view to show final fantasy games are not on a decline and that poster that say this really do not care about final fantasy at all.
Im just a massive fan of final fantasy so of course, im biased but i get angry really reading all this stuff on internet all time.
lol i wont be doing any you tube videos btw lol.

back to gametrailers, decent review hopefully the final fantasy 14 team will listen to what people want in the game.

SE does not have a very strong record with their PC implementations of games with most being shoddy ports starting back as early as FFVII and, to this day, still being notorious with XI and now XIV.

I only ever played Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation, but I remember the huge uproar when the PC port came out and the FMVs played upside down / inverted. :D

Ah so your game is upside down and backwards, wah wah. Sheesh people will complain about anything.

Maybe you would be happy if they just explained everything for you? I'm sorry if i took your post wrong, but it seems to me that your upset with the lack of information.

This is an RPG. A Role Playing Game. The point of it, is to bring you to a fantasy world, where you build yourself. You create you in another world. Do you really think it all needs to be explained to you?
Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of an RPG?

Oh god, you again? Seriously? SE should have some sort of response for the tsunami of justifiably negative reviews. You don't think so? Seriously?

I felt this was a pretty fair review. I agree with 90% of the things they said. Some things they said I vehemently disagree with, like the voice acting being shoddy. The game would probably have been great at launch if they had pushed the actual release date back 6 months.

They have a lot of work ahead of them to make this game decent, and some of the things they should implement I know they aren't going to do (like explain things like synthesis in game more deeply). But I'm going to continue paying for and playing the game. Some of the core mechanics need a major overhaul, like the UI. Some of the core mechanics have yet to be implemented or even mentioned, like chocobos, search, AH, etc. And some of them need some tweaking to make good, like the battle system and the Rank exp gain system.. But some of the core mechanics let me know that they've at least done somethings in a good way. The crafting system itself is unique and imo, potentially amazing. The way abilities are transferred across classes has potential to create many unique playing styles.

I expect the game to be good by the time I can actually spend more than the weekends playing.

Wow. Don't know how you read all that into my post... guess I should have added "/sarcasm" at the end.

My point was (and it still stands) that all of the issues in the game reviews that are getting pointed out as bad for the game have been known about since Beta. And instead of putting every effort into fixing the issues and communicating their plan of action to us players we get feedback that may be vaguely useful but goes nowhere toward responding to basic problems with the game.

Seriously SE, it's been what 3 weeks since CE? Over a month since open beta. Is anyone from your community teams going to go out in public and actually talk to game outlets? I'd feel a great deal better just knowing you are aware of specific issues and have a plan to fix them, including expected fix dates.

really the most frustrating thing is the lack of communication, like .....Why not just say something. anything. Whats the big frigging secret.....you get the impression SE views the gamers ad the enemy. Which is just bazarre. They make these comments during beta like... "despite negative feedback on this we are standing our ground"..wtf is that??? In other words, 'We dont care what they say were doing it this way". I really think decades of dedicated fans and blind zealots buying every PoS they throw at us has just made them this way. They havent really made a great FF title in 10 yrs oor so, give or take. FFX was the last good one really, but not great. FFX-2 was complete BS...FFXI was good for what it was,but once again not GREAT...FFXII was good, alot of ppl didnt like it but it was ok...FFXIII was the worst untill FFXIV. But one thing they all have in common, they sold copies. Because "Final Fantasy" was in the title. SE is just a giant arrogant *** of a company.
